What your day looks like:

The FSQR (Food Safety, Quality and Regulatory) Location Lead is responsible for overseeing and maintaining the integrity of food safety and quality systems at their designated facility. This role provides specialized expertise in auditing, regulatory compliance, sanitation, root cause analysis, hazard analysis, and operational troubleshooting. The FSQR Location Lead will be the site primary contact for internal and external audit processes, a member of the site level and corporate level food safety team, and ensure alignment with corporate, customer, and regulatory standards are maintained. This position plays a key role in driving continuous improvement and ensuring safe, high-quality products are consistently produced from their facility.

Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance
  • Maintain Food Safety Plan for the site while ensuring ensure compliance with FSMA, FDA, USDA, and Organic (if applicable) standards.
  • Work collaboratively with Head of Food Safety for updates and maintenance of the site Food Safety Plan
  • Act as the primary person for internal and external audits (SQF, FDA/PDA, PVP, Organic) and ensure audit readiness at all times.
  • Lead and participate in corporate and regulatory food safety audits.
  • Own and ensure closure of all non-conformances generated during internal and external audits
  • Ensure sanitation processes, cGMPs, and prerequisite programs are being followed, addressing gaps directly with Site management, escalating appropriately as needed.
  • Ensure understanding of regulatory changes and update programs proactively to maintain compliance.

Quality Assurance & Non-Conformance Management
  • Monitor manufacturing processes, plant environment, and finished products to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Ensure testing for PDI, Crumb size, grind size, etc. are being completed and within specification.
  • Investigate non-conformances, ensuring containment and corrective actions happen as quickly as necessary, based on the severity of the event.
  • Work with site management to properly determine root cause and preventative actions for all nonconformances; ensure thorough documentation is created and filed for audit and regulatory review.
  • Work collaboratively with other FSQR Leads to determine how preventative actions should be implemented at other mills.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce recurring issues and improve process capability.

Customer Experience & Communication
  • Serve as primary contact for customer complaints originating from your site; provide timely, accurate updates to relationship managers and leadership to communicate back to customer.
  • Represent the location during customer audits and quality-related meetings.

Operational Partnership
  • Collaborate with mill leadership to enforce GMP, housekeeping standards, and testing schedules.
  • Monitor compliance with quality checklists and escalate gaps professionally when standards are not met.
  • Support operational excellence by identifying process improvements and training opportunities.
  • Collaborate with mill leadership to create, edit or archive procedures relating to operations within the mill.

Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate records of audits, inspections, and corrective actions in designated systems (e.g. Laserfiche).
  • Prepare and present quality performance metrics for KPI meetings and management reviews.

Training & Development
  • Conduct onboarding and ongoing training for team members on food safety and quality programs.
  • Promote a culture of compliance and quality awareness across the location.

Leadership & Initiative
  • Proactively communicate barriers to completing tasks and take ownership to drive resolution.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking by questioning and validating mill responses before signing off as adequate and complete.
  • Act as primary contact for mill quality and food safety events, meaning off hours and weekend support will be needed
  • Serve as the food safety team leader for the site, driving a culture of understanding and compliance
  • Independently resolve moderately complex issues and escalate more complex matters as needed.
  • Ensure active communication channels with direct and indirect reporting structure for all events at your site
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Who you are:
  • Strong knowledge of food safety systems, including HACCP/FSMA, cGMPs, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to manage food safety incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and speak to regulatory requirements (21CFR507, USDA NOP, etc.)
  • Proficiency in relevant computer systems and data analysis tools.
  • Capability to independently resolve moderately complex issues and escalate when necessary.
  • Willingness to perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Animal Science, Biology, or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in food safety, quality assurance, or a related field within the feed manufacturing industry.
  • Proven experience leading audits and managing food safety programs.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively across teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
