What your day looks like:

POSITION SUMMARY:

This individual is responsible to continually monitor and evaluate all aspects of the feed manufacturing process. Based on proactive findings, the Capital Process Engineer recommends, plans, implements, and evaluates programs designed to produce a cost-efficient quality feed. This position will lead key projects as determined by the Chief Engineer.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Ensure all feed & ingredient processing is of acceptable quality at each facility (SBM, Mash, Pellets, Crumbs, moisture, nutritional consistency, ship to manufacture, etc.)
  • Own the Wenger System SOP's; if processes are not in place create them. If they are weak, work closely with the Mill Managers to implement them and ensure accountability for consistent results
  • Facilitate/Coordinate Project Team to go paperless at each facility
  • Apply engineering techniques in the analysis of existing production lines from receiving ingredients to finished feed to provide safe and efficient manufacturing systems that meet quality and cost expectations
  • Continually improve the efficiencies and cost of mill manufacturing systems.
  • Be actively involved in the development and implementation of long-term improvement programs
  • Participate when requested in incident investigation and non-conformance issues
  • Initiate and cost justify equipment and modifications to the production process in response to equipment performance and product quality issues
  • Maintain a high level of equipment reliability working closely with maintenance and mill personnel
  • In coordination with mill leadership provide training to production personnel and implement standard operating procedures
  • Update Mill Fact sheets based on process and equipment changes facilitated by process changes or CAPEX projects
  • Provide and maintain process flow diagrams and Site drawings.
  • Stay abreast of new production and equipment processes through contact with universities, vendors and related industry manufacturers
  • Assist and prepare reports and analytics of data and research to support theories and justify change
  • Prepare ROI and business case analysis for suggested improvement efforts
  • Assist with design and implementation of CAPEX proposals and projects when requested

Other Activities
  • Timely and accurate completion of tasks are critical success measures for the position.
  • Address errors, problems and complaints within scope of authority
  • Perform other duties as determined by the Chief Engineer

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering (mechanical, electrical, mechatronics, automation) or related field required
  • Minimum of 10 years' production/manufacturing related experience, OR an equivalent combination of related post-graduate education and/or experience preferred
  • Lean Six Sigma experience preferred
  • Agriculture, feed/food experience is preferred
  • Must possess valid drivers license.
  • Strong problem solving and project management skills
  • Strong technical and analytical aptitude
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Proficient written communication skills in business correspondence and other required documents; can present numerical data effectively
  • Strong oral communication skills: speaks clearly and persuasively; listens effectively; obtains clarification; conveys information and ideas in understandable terms at all levels of the organization and through proper channels; participates in meetings; responds well to questions
  • Solid mathematical skills and background
  • Take ownership and accountability for mistakes, correct and learn from them and have the ability to progress forward
  • Strong planning and organizing skills: using time efficiently; adapting to changes in the work environment; managing competing demands and changing approach or method to best fit the situation
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with AutoCAD, Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office programs
