Broiler Service Technician

Serve as a consultant to broiler growing producers, offering expertise in flock record monitoring, poultry health services, and grow-out strategies. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with Wenger policies, monitoring bird health and performance metrics, pre-placement visits, and overseeing house cleanliness and maintenance.

What will you do:

  • Ensure adherence to Wenger policies, methods, and disciplines
  • Monitor and respond to bird weight and uniformity, mortality, feed consumption, and blood/swab samples
  • Work with Labs to get flock diseases diagnosed
  • Make sure house is properly prepared for new chickens
  • Monitor and respond to house cleanliness, ventilation, feeding and water system, and fly and rodent control problems
  • Direct and collaborate with contract broiler growers to follow the approved grow out practices, maintaining growing facilities, and growing birds
  • Identify problems or potential problems and work through possible solutions.
  • Maintain Certified Poultry Technicians License for Pennsylvania and other certifications for Live Bird Market
  • Understand and implement current Live Bird Market Regulations for transporting poultry
  • Always comply and follow company requirements regarding biosecurity, food safety, and poultry welfare programs and policies
  • Charge out services as described by the Dutchland Farm Flock Services form
  • Complete administrative duties preparing and maintaining reports in the area of broiler production
  • Sampling of flocks (blood, swabs, etc.) on a timely basis as required
  • Understand, implement, complete, and enforce growout programs, biosecurity plans and animal welfare programs
  • Monitors progress of flocks by weighing, visits, and/or communication
  • Resolves conflicts that may arise
  • Analyze and resolve problems at a strategic and functional level
  • Support any efforts needed in the field for Broilers
  • Assist in the coordination of the Poultry Field Technician's schedule
  • Maintain Certified Poultry Technicians License for Pennsylvania and other certifications for Live Bird Market
  • Understand and implement current Live Bird Market Regulations
  • Work in other areas of service as needed
  • Perform all other duties necessary to complete the job

Who are you:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required) or Bachelor's or Associate degree (preferred)
  • Knowledge of bird health and chicken house management or 1-2 years in related role (preferred)
  • Certified Poultry Technician for PA and for blood sampling for NY/NJ live bird markets (or obtaining within 90 days of hire)
  • Good organization and communication skills
  • Willingness to devote to the position whatever is needed to get the job done
  • Flexibility to assist in other areas of service as needed
  • Ability to schedule and prioritize duties, and work with minimal direct supervision
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds
  • Ability to climb ladder
  • Valid PA Driver's License
