Purpose:
The Production Supervisor provides operations-level leadership and direct accountability for contract growers, independent caretakers, and HANOR employees in the Iowa/Illinois region. This position ensures the consistent execution of animal care, facility management, and production practices in alignment with The HANOR Way and HANOR Production Practices (HPP). The Production Supervisor achieves results by training, coaching, and holding caretakers accountable for compliance, animal well-being, and operational performance.
Essential Job Functions:
Operational Execution
- Conduct regular farm visits to evaluate and reinforce standards for animal care, biosecurity, and facility management.
- Participate in farm activities (chores, load outs) to model expectations and provide hands-on training.
- Ensure maintenance and emergency systems are functional, reliable, and ready for use.
Compliance & Training
- Lead training and hold contract growers, caretakers, and HANOR employees accountable for HANOR Production Practices and biosecurity requirements.
- Conduct monthly face-to-face meetings with caretakers to review performance, share feedback, and address opportunities for improvement.
- Monitor and enforce adherence to safety, animal well-being, and verification programs.
Animal Care, Feed & Health
- Oversee feed management practices, including ordering, feeder adjustment, and minimizing waste.
- Partner with veterinarians and caretakers to monitor herd health and respond to concerns.
- Implement marketing protocols for animal selection and timing to optimize revenues.
Inventory & Reporting
- Accurately count and grade pigs, ensuring mortality and sales are reported promptly.
- Manage veterinary and maintenance supply ordering and accountability.
- Communicate Key Production Indicators (KPIs) to caretakers to reinforce expectations and accountability.
Planning & Communication
- Plan and schedule weekly activities to ensure operational priorities are achieved.
- Coordinate logistics for markets, culls, and feed deliveries.
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with caretakers, including use of Spanish when appropriate.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This role directs and holds accountable contract growers, caretakers, and independent contractors, and HANOR employees. The Production Supervisor sets expectations for performance outcomes while reporting operational performance to the Production Manager.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- Minimum one year of successful grow-finish or swine production experience required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and farm management software/electronic reporting systems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of swine production systems, animal husbandry, and biosecurity best practices.
- Proven ability to train, coach, and hold caretakers accountable to standards.
- Effective organizational skills to manage multiple farm priorities.
- Strong communication skills, with Spanish proficiency preferred.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
- Pork Quality Assurance (PQA) and Transport Quality Assurance (TQA) certifications required.
- HANOR Animal Well-Being (AWB) training required
