About the Role
HANOR is seeking a Farm Manager to lead sow production operations in Marengo, Illinois. This role is responsible for overall farm performance, including employee leadership, animal care, and daily operational execution. The Farm Manager provides direction, sets expectations, and ensures production, safety, and animal welfare standards are consistently achieved while fostering a culture aligned with The HANOR Way.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily leadership for all farm operations, ensuring compliance with safety, animal welfare, biosecurity, and production protocols.
- Supervise Department Heads and Animal Production Specialists, setting clear expectations and holding employees accountable for performance.
- Oversee breeding, gestation, farrowing, piglet care, and overall herd health to achieve production goals.
- Ensure accurate completion of production records and timely reporting of KPIs and farm data.
- Monitor herd health and collaborate with Veterinary Services on treatment and prevention programs.
- Maintain high standards of sanitation, facility maintenance, and environmental controls.
- Coordinate maintenance and ensure proper operation of equipment, buildings, and feeding systems.
- Drive employee development through coaching, training, and daily engagement.
- Promote a culture of safety, discipline, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- GAP requirements—Use of bedding and the absence of antibiotics in piglets. Candidates must obtain PQA Advisor and Certified Livestock Manager certifications. This farm will operate with less supervision than usual.
Qualifications
- Minimum 12 months of leadership experience as a Department Head; three years preferred for sow farm leadership roles.
- Demonstrated competency in Basic/Advanced Breeding and Farrowing (HANOR Production Practices or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of swine production, animal husbandry, and biosecurity practices.
- Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop employees.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
