Position Summary

The Andersons is an Agricultural Supply Chain company that provides high-quality grain products to meet the demands of our customers and end-users. As we focus on our goal of feeding and fueling the world we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Commodity Merchant to join our Soybean Meal Loose Soyhulls Soyhull Pellets Canola Meal/Pellets and Bypass products team. This role will be based out of our Burlington Vermont trading office.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the buying and selling activities for assigned commodities
• Develop deeper understanding of supply and demand survey market conditions and analyze other economic forces in order to establish position in the market
• Initiate negotiate and agree on terms of commodity purchase/sale contracts such as price quality quantity transportation timing and payment
• Arrange efficient transportation of commodities both by truck and rail
• Ensure thorough and accurate follow-up execution and closure to all contracts
• Research and identify new customers and/or suppliers as well as develop and maintain regular communication to build and grow current customer relationships
• Analyze commodity markets to identify trading opportunities
• Gain basic understanding of arbitrage macro-environmental factors that impact the supply and demand of commodities and logistics process and decision making
• Work closely with the trading team to understand existing market knowledge while developing an understanding for current and past trade flows to help make market decisions and long-term business strategies that meet financial goals

Education & Experience

• Bachelorâs Degree required or the equivalent in work experience preferably in Agriculture Business Finance Economics or related major
• 2-5 yearsâ of experience required in commodity merchandising originations or trading
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software

Physical Requirements and Working Environment

• Prolonged period of sitting at a desk and working at a computer
