Position Summary

The Merchant position is responsible for market discovery and playing a key role in driving P&L results.ÂThe scope of responsibility could be operating an existing book of business developing a long-term strategic vision for existing market and acting on that vision to build out their book of business.ÂThis position is highly collaborative and shares information internally to optimize efficiency and effectiveness while developing an extraordinary understanding of an existing market.

Key Responsibilities

• Work closely with PCM-Cottonseed to understand existing market knowledge developing an understanding for current and past trade flows to help make immediate market decisions and long-term business strategies that meet financial goals.
• Track operation costs closely and demonstrate an understanding of margin needs to cover those operation costs that also meet personal financial goals within the company
• Understand accounting flows and monitor that these flows are executing through the book as expected on a daily weekly and monthly basis
• Maintain a strong level of customer service and communications with existing end users origins and transloads while making strategic decisions that maximize opportunity
• Fully own truck rail and barge movements for customers and manage inventory pipeline
• Own relationships for all new purchases sales and execution plans that fall within the scope of business unit developing relationships that require daily/weekly communication
• Gain an understanding of how to build a S&D Balance sheet for relevant markets and apply to business results and opinions
• Prospect new business that falls in line with long term strategies for both profit center and company
• Provide weekly thoughts to PCM-Cottonseed on opportunities and discuss long term strategies concerning existing and future business

What is expected of you and others at this level

• Performs daily merchandising responsibilities: buy sell execute track shipments and maintain clean book of business
• Knowledge and exposure to higher level theories principles and concepts gained through education and/or experience
• Develops competence by performing structured work assignments
• Uses critical thinking skills to solve new and existing issues and improve current processes looking for efficiencies
• Receives instruction guidance and direction from PCM turning these interactions into understanding
• High level of communication both verbal and written
• Demonstrates curiosity and willingness to learn entire trading execution business Â
• Organize book of business in a way that makes the financial success easy to communicate to all levels of cohorts within the company

Minimum Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelorâs Degree required or the equivalent in work experience
• 2-5 yearsâ relevant experience required

Physical Requirements and Working Environment

• Prolonged period of sitting at a desk and working at a computer
