Job Description:
Job Summary
The Farm Operations Coordinator is responsible for overseeing daily farm activities while ensuring crop health, food safety compliance, and full product traceability. This role combines field scouting, crew coordination, and implementation of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) to support high-quality crop production and audit readiness. The position plays a key role in maximizing yield, maintaining compliance, and ensuring efficient farm operations.
 
Key Responsibilities
Farm Operations & Coordination
  • Assist in coordinating daily farm activities
  • Supervise field staff and assign daily tasks 
  • Monitor workflow efficiency and adjust schedules as needed 
  • Coordinate labor, equipment, and materials to meet production goals 
  • Train staff on farm procedures, equipment use and safety protocols
  • Maintain field records and production data
  • Track attendance, productivity, and labour needs
  • Collect employee hours and timecards weekly for the Office Assistant
  • Pick up parts if necessary
Crop Scouting & Field Monitoring
  • Scout crops regularly (e.g., corn, strawberries, watermelon, sweet potatoes) for pests, diseases, and weeds 
  • Monitor crop growth stages, plant health, and environmental stress 
  • Identify nutrient deficiencies, irrigation issues, or damage 
  • Collect plant, soil or pest samples when required
  • Monitor pest population levels and thresholds
  • Record and report field observations with photos and notes 
  • Recommend or assist in pest and disease control measures using IPM practices 
Food Safety & GAP Compliance
  • Implement and maintain food safety programs and sanitation practices 
  • Ensure compliance with GAP standards (e.g., CanadaGAP or similar programs) 
  • Train workers on hygiene, harvesting procedures, and contamination prevention 
  • Conduct routine inspections of fields, packing areas, and facilities 
  • Maintain up to date food safety documentation and records
  • Ensure proper use of PPE and safe handling practices
  • Ensure accurate labeling and record keeping
  • Monitor water quality, soil conditions and chemical usage
  • Verify proper storage and handling of fertilizers and pesticides and inventory
  • Conduct internal GAP audits and prepare for third party audits
  • Communicate policies and updates to staff and management
Traceability Management
  • Maintain product traceability from field to shipment (lot coding, labeling, records) 
  • Track harvests, storage, and shipments accurately 
  • Conduct mock recalls to ensure system effectiveness 
  • Maintain documentation for audits and customer requirements 
Equipment & Resource Management
  • Coordinate and monitor use of farm equipment and machinery 
  • Ensure equipment is properly maintained and used safely 
  • Manage inventory of seeds, fertilizers, chemicals, and supplies 
  • Assist with ordering and tracking inputs 
Recordkeeping & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate records of field activities, scouting reports, inputs, and yields 
  • Track labor, production data, and food safety logs 
  • Prepare reports for management and auditors 
  • Use farm management software or manual logs 
Training & Team Leadership
  • Train and supervise staff on farm operations, scouting, and food safety procedures 
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and quality 
 
Qualifications
  • Experience in agriculture, farm operations, or crop production 
  • Knowledge of pests, diseases, and crop management practices 
  • Familiarity with food safety standards and GAP programs (e.g., CanadaGAP) 
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills 
  • Ability to work independently and in outdoor environments 
  • Basic computer skills for recordkeeping and reporting (Excel)
  • Valid driver’s license
 
Working Conditions
  • Combination of outdoor fieldwork and indoor/office tasks
