About this Role:

Syngenta’s Crop Protection Product Safety group is committed to applying world-class science and winning innovation to offer farmers safe, cost-effective solutions that address the demands of a rapidly changing world.  We are looking for a toxicologist to join our Human Safety Team.  This is an entry to mid-level professional position with extensive career growth opportunities. This person will assume accountability for a portfolio of active ingredients to maintain and expand product registrations, with a primary focus in North America. He/she will represent Human Safety to individual projects working in multi-disciplinary teams to enable dossier submissions and responses to regulatory questions. This person will also represent Human Safety Toxicology and Syngenta to external stakeholders, including US EPA and Canada PMRA. Additional responsibilities include contributing to the toxicology teams in their area of expertise to design and manage studies in compliance with regulatory guidelines and GLP requirements, and providing interpreted data and advice to projects globally.

Essential Duties & Accountabilities:

  • Demonstrate a good understanding of regulatory guidance and study requirements within human and animal safety assessment, toxicity assessment in particular
  • Contribute to product life cycle management, ensuring that projects are properly scoped, conducted, and delivered on time to meet regulatory and business needs
  • Influence the development of technical and techno-regulatory strategies and project work plans by contributing to multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Be able to understand and communicate complex technical issues with stakeholders internally and externally and provide expert inputs and/or prepare technical documents in response to questions from regulatory authorities.
  • Independently apply your knowledge and experiences to plan, design, coordinate, monitor and deliver toxicity studies conducted by CROs in compliance with all safety, regulatory and GLP requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise in identifying, solving, and managing a variety of technical issues or challenges within responsible areas, and be able to optimize relevant processes to eliminate significant inefficiencies
  • Manage and prioritize multiple project responsibilities within cross functional teams
  • Work to be recognized as a subject matter expert internally among cross-function colleagues and externally within industry and scientific forums/societies


Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in toxicology or related field, applicants with BS or MS degrees and commensurate experience will be considered. Work level will be adjusted based on education and experience.
  • Project management skills preferably gained from agricultural industry, with experience in US EPA and Canada PMRA regulatory compliance
  • Experience in designing and managing toxicology studies conducted to regulatory guidelines i.e., OECD at CROs 
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation
  • Experience or strong understanding of the purpose and conduct of toxicology studies in the context of risk assessment
  • Effective written/verbal communication, organizational, and analytical skills with attention to details
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, Traits & Abilities:

  • Interest or experience in the genetic toxicology area
  • Interest or experience working with human and animal risk assessor, bio/statistical analyst, and/or data science expert
