About this Job:The overall purpose of the job
is to act an HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) advisor / liaison for the various
business units at the RTP site. Ensure compliance with federal, state and local
HSE regulations and Syngenta policies and standards.Responsible for all assigned
aspects of HSE program development, implementation and improvement.Lead HSE
cultural development and maintenance with site leadership. Add expertise and collaborate with the
greater Syngenta HSE community.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Co-lead the management of the site HSE program with defined
    primary or secondary responsibilities for each area
  • Ensure
    site compliance with federal, state and local HSE regulations and Syngenta
    policies and standards in a complex site housing; office, laboratory, facility
    maintenance and greenhouse operations
  • Coordinate
    the site Emergency Management Team, train the site spill team, and manage
    the site Greensboro HSES Integrated Contingency and Emergency Action Plan
  • Serve
    as site HSE communications lead responsible for managing the relationship
    with all HSE customers through effective communication of customer needs
    and leaderships HSE expectations
  • Own the development, implementation,
    maintenance and improvement of a comprehensive HSE data management program
    including desktop systems, intranet-based systems and document management and
    training delivery systems for the site
  • Lend knowledge in areas of focused expertise to help coordinate
    and risk assess projects impacting HSE, e.g., management of change,
    biological projects, maintenance activities, and other initiatives
  • Point of contact as needed with NA HSE Regional experts
  • Compile and submit various regulatory reports as
    assigned including Tier II, Wastewater Report, Semi-Annual Air Permit, SERAM
  • Sense technology in order to transition RTP to modern
    means of communicating HSE related guidance and training for all associates
    and visitors
  • Lead the evaluation of biological project safety impact
    on human health
  • Manage the quality of written programs to ensure
    accuracy, precision and effect communication of HSE expectation
  • Lead the HSE rewards and recognition program
  • Participate on HSE-related committees, such as; the HSE
    Committee, Biological Safety Council, Greenhouse Operations Committee and
    Laboratory Operations Committee
  • Participate on site incident investigations and lead
    HSE communications regarding incident learnings
  • Participate on cross-functional teams, partner with
    peers and support all HSE network-wide initiatives
  • Assist the Operations Head in matters related to
    communication, project management and capital budgets
  • Maintain a strong presence onsite through site
    walk-throughs, inspections, etc.
  • Assist Regional HSE with project implementation and
    site audits and serve as site regulatory audit contact
  • Manage operational aspects of the site security program
    as assigned
  • Management HSE procurement

  • Skills:

  • Knowledge of or experience with HSEHealth,
    Safety, Environment regulations, e.g. USDA, OSHA, NFPA, EPA
  • Ability to interpret legislation as it applies to
  • Ability to organize and conduct a site HSE audit,
    conduct risk analysis of HSE issues
  • Ability to create and edit written HSE programs based
    that effectively communicate Syngenta HSE expectations
  • A minimum of one year of HSE or regulatory auditing/management
  • Additional Knowledge, Skills, Traits & Abilities:
  • Application of experience and regulatory knowledge to
    Syngenta systems/organization/culture
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to capture
    the attention of, and influence people via interpersonal communication
    throughout all levels of the organization in small and large venues
  • Ability to create and communicate through networks,
    newsletters, safety bulletins and the intranet
  • Ability to work with a variety of people and develop a
    strong HSE culture
  • Project management experience
  • Experience developing automated Smartsheet worksheets
  • Understanding of PPQ and biological stewardship
  • Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds to waist
  • Ability to carry 50 pounds for a short distance
  • Must be able to walk long distances and stand on their
    feet for long periods of time
  • Able to climb multiple flights of stairs
  • Must be able to climb ladders and work at heights
  • Must pass a medical clearance to wear a respirator
  • Must pass a physical for a hazardous materials worker
