About this Job:As Head of Consumer
& Environmental Safety in Syngentas Seeds Product Safety group, you will
lead a team of professional scientists who comprise part of a global technical platform
responsible for delivering expert advice, technical positions, studies and risk
assessments within Seeds Product Safety to support the development, regulatory
approval and maintenance of seeds trait products for Syngenta.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Be
    accountable for the deliverables of your team and exercise management
    responsibilities (including hiring; performance management; adherence to work
    policies, regulations and standards; and resource/budget allocation)
  • Provide
    scientific expertise and leadership in the areas of human, animal and
    environmental safety of seed traits, including native traits, GM traits and
    genome edited traits
  • Together
    with other Seeds Product Safety Leaders, provide direction and leadership to
    the Seeds Product Safety Team
  • Together
    with other Seeds Product Safety Leaders and Regulatory Affairs Leaders, work to
    resolve issues and promote a collaborative culture to ensure we have aligned
    project priorities and techno-regulatory positions.
  • Work
    closely with regional/global regulatory and product safety teams to deliver
    data, assessments and interpretation to support global and regional projects
    and regulatory submissions consistent with business priorities and Product
    Safety standards
  • Establish
    foresight for emerging science areas and develop and optimize
    technical/scientific capabilities in order to support high quality product
    registrations
  • Ensure
    that team activities are coordinated and allocated to the optimum internal or
    external technical resource within the platform and operating budget
    limitations
  • Interpret
    internal and external business needs and issues and recommend solutions to
    stakeholders
  • Coach,
    mentor and develop team members and/or other Team/Technical Leaders
  • Participate
    in and interact with the global platform including providing input to
    functional/departmental strategy.
    Developing close working relationships with peers is critical for
    success
  • Represent
    your technical platform or Seeds Product Safety in multi-functional project
    teams with authority to negotiate with partners
  • Represent
    your technical platform or Seeds Product Safety in external industry or
    scientific expert teams



Skills:

Education &
Experience:


  • The position demands expert knowledge in regulatory
    science and safety/risk assessment coupled with an in depth knowledge of
    the individuals field of expertise. Ideally, the candidate will have
    knowledge/expertise in both human and environmental toxicology and risk/safety
    assessment as applied to the safety assessment of genetically modified crops
  • The
    candidate will have demonstrated high performance in leading teams, team
    leaders and projects
  • A
    PhD, or combination of education and experience in a field relevant to the
    assessment of the safety to support the maintenance and development of seed
    trait products is typically required.
  • The
    position typically requires an individual with at least 15 years professional
    experience in a field relevant to safety assessment.
  • Previous
    experience of at least 3 years in a technical leader position is typically required
  • A proven track record of solving technical problems
    is required.
  • Expert
    knowledge of techno-regulatory business environment including government
    authorities, academia and key influencers
