Position Summary

This position will be charged with the operation of the brine mixing station. This will include: starting up and shutting down the brine making operation, ensuring sufficient raw materials are ordered and available, measuring and mixing ingredients according to specifications, understanding formulas in order to ensure proper specifications are met, troubleshooting and correcting problems, and completing documentation. Must be able to alter start/end time of shift based on production needs.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee entire brine making operation, including start up and shut down.
  • Make brine according to formula, ensuring specification compliance, for both new batches of brine and boosting the concentrations of brine already in use.
  • Breaking down formulas to assure the proper ratio of ingredients is maintained.
  • Train and give direction to other employees working in area.
  • Accurately complete necessary paperwork (finished goods tally, downtime, etc.).
  • Troubleshoot and correct problems as they occur; notify maintenance if assistance is needed.
  • Safely connect and disconnect sulfur dioxide (SO2) cylinders to the system.
  • Transfer SO2 safely and without release to the atmosphere.
  • Operate a semi-automated computer controlled batch system.
  • Lift 50# bags of chemicals and safely add powders to batch system.
  • Use proper lock out procedures when necessary and ensuring all other safety protocol is followed.
  • Use proper sanitation procedures to clean line as needed.
  • Maintain and operate forklift safely at all times; complete daily forklift tests.
  • Load brine into tankers or totes as required.
  • Alter start times based on the needs of production.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Certifications Required

  • Understand and use formulas
  • Ability to pass a respiratory fitness test
  • OSHA Forklift License
  • DHS Hazardous Chemical / Chemical of Interest Training including background check and DHS screening
  • Sulfur Dioxide Safety Training

  • Frequent standing and walking
  • Some climbing, bending, stooping, and twisting
  • Lifting and/or pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds
  • Must wear respiratory protection equipment when performing this work

  • Wet or humid conditions
  • Extreme temperatures
  • Exposure to sulfur dioxide(sulfur dioxide, pH of solution to 3.0) in both liquid (brine) and gas state.
  • Exposure to calcium hydroxide (lime).
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals
