Job Overview

The Genetic & Reproductive Advisor serves as a key consultant and strategic partner to dairy producers, and sales staff focusing on enhancing reproductive efficiency, profitability and genetic performance within their herds. This role provides expert-level guidance and insight through Select Reproductive Solutions (SRS), Select RePRO Analysis, Optimal Genetic Pathways, CowManager, SMS-Select Mating Services, other herd management technologies, while supporting the full portfolio of Select Sires Member Cooperative's genetic services and products.

 

Key Responsibilities

Genetic & Reproductive Advisement

  • Deliver tailored on-farm consulting using SRS, Optimal Genetic Pathways, Select RePRO Analysis and CowManager tools to improve reproductive calf & cow health outcomes and long-term genetic progress.
  • Conduct genetic audits, recommend breeding strategies (including sexed, beef, genomic testing and embryo programs) and implement pregnancy inventory management solutions.
  • Assist in troubleshooting reproductive issues and collaborate on solutions with producers and field teams.

 

Member Engagement & Business Development

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with existing and prospective customers.
  • Identify opportunities to grow usage of SSMC services such as Genomic Testing, SMS, CowManager, Animal Health Products and ProTECH services.
  • Support field teams in lead generation, sales alignment, goal and KPI management and delivering return-on-investment insights.

 

Data & Performance Management

  • Collect, enter, and analyze herd data using herd management software. Such as CowManager, DairyComp, DHIA Plus and PC Dart.
  • Develop and communicate performance reports that support strategic decision-making and track genetic and reproductive progress.
  • Follow up on communications with both customers and sales staff to ensure proper understanding and data usage.

 

Education, Outreach & Promotion

  • Represent SSMC at industry events, producer meetings, trade shows, and seminars.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop educational content and promotional materials.
  • Conduct training sessions for producers, extension agents, and ag educators to promote the values of SSMC and the tools, programs, products, people, and services.
  • Work in collaboration with Area Business Directors to support employee training and informational resources.

 

Internal Collaboration & Leadership

  • Serve as a reproductive and genetic subject matter expert within the team.
  • Participate in sales and strategy meetings; provide insights on genetic trends, program outcomes, and emerging technologies.
  • Follow all outcoming data on emerging genetic offerings and portfolio additions.
  • Stay current on genetic and genomic updates.
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications & Skills

 

Education & Experience

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Dairy Science, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in reproductive management, dairy consulting, or genetic planning is highly beneficial.

 

Technical Competencies

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, CRM systems, and dairy herd management software (e.g., CowManager, DairyComp, PC Dart).
  • Understanding of dairy reproduction, genetics, mating programs, and herd performance evaluation
  • Ability and willingness to provide AI Technician breeding services to support teams as necessary.

 

Professional Attributes

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal); bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
  • Vast understanding of dairy systems, genetics,bovine reproduction and processes
  • Self-motivated, organized, and capable of working independently and in a team environment.
  • Customer-focused with excellent follow-through and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, field-based environments with minimal supervision.
  • The ability to build trusted relationships, uncover needs and present solutions for sales

 

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs occasionally.
  • Willingness to travel within assigned territory and occasionally
  • Compliance with company Hazmat training and safety policies.
