Location: Remote, flexible, some travel required. Atlantic Canada preferred but will consider candidates from other provinces

POSITION SUMMARY:
We are looking to fill a contract position as Writer & Associate Editor of Spud Smart magazine — our potato focused, farmer facing publication — and its related digital platforms. The contract is half time, fully remote.
Working with our editorial team, the Writer & Associate Editor will execute the editorial direction and provide the project management required to build our publication’s reputation as the leading source of information for the Canadian potato industry.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain an understanding and knowledge of key issues in the potato industry
- Plan editorial calendars, determine story lineups, and oversee strict editorial timelines
- Write relevant, in-depth feature stories in a lively and engaging journalistic voice
- Manage and provide direction to freelance writers
- Support the collection and editing of press release content
- Produce an engaging newsletter
- Host podcasts, webinars, and video interviews
- Contribute towards the overall Seed World Group editorial team’s efforts
- Oversee budgets
- Support our digital team to build and maintain relevance on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms
- Represent Seed World Group at industry events, conferences and tradeshows as needed (approx. 3-4 times per year)
- Liaise and build relationships with editorial advisory board members and industry leaders
- Write articles for our other media properties.
- Maintain up-to-date competence with Associated Press, Canadian Press and European Commission English Style Guides; and
- Complete other duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- A degree in communications, journalism and/or agriculture, or demonstrable equivalent in experience.
- 2+ years experience in media preferred (2+ years experience in communications may be an acceptable alternative).
- Additional media and/or agriculture education or experience is an asset.
