The Grain Quality Manager will provide leadership, expertise and standardization to our grain asset inventory management, quality control and inspection processes. This position will oversee and coordinate support with facility staff to maintain, measure and inspect grain to ensure accurate inventory amounts and quality standards are met. This position requires frequent travel to Scoular grain storage facilities, which includes Scoular’s third-party storage locations. This position will be responsible for training managers, superintendents, and other operators in best practices to inspect, measure, monitor, and sample grain quality.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead the year-end inventory measurement process and review facility recommendations for inventory adjustments.
- Coordinate and conduct regular inspections and testing of grain samples to assess factors such as moisture content, protein levels, impurities, and overall quality.
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry regulations, safety standards, and quality guidelines set by government agencies and certifications and Scoular.
- Manage fumigation application process and coordination with 3rd party vendors to optimize application.
- Enhance and implement inspection and testing procedures to identity quality and inventory issues and to ensure grain consistently meets Scoular standards. Inform regional managers promptly about identified issues for prompt corrective actions.
- Prepare detailed reports on grain quality data, testing results, inventory levels and overall performance for management.
- Inspect truck/rail scales annually at high volume/shuttle facilities.
- Continuously identify opportunities for process improvement to optimize grain quality and overall efficiency in the grain handling and processing operations. Stay updated with the latest advancements in grain quality control and collaborate to explore and implement innovative technologies in inventory management.
- Train company managers, superintendents, scale operators, and facility operators’ best practices to inspect and monitor grain. Including aeration management, quality control procedures, safety protocols, and best practices for grain handling, inventory management, storage, grain grading procedures (vomitoxin/mycotoxin testing, GMO/Non-GMO testing).
- Train facility operators how to measure inventory in bins, flats, bunkers, ground piles, bags, and totes.
- Participate in employee Safety agenda and improvement

- Proven experience in aeration best practices, fumigation, inventory measure ups.
- Highly skilled in independent problem-solving techniques.
- Ability to manage workloads and priorities autonomously.
- Understand and apply blueprints and technical diagrams.
- Willingness to work at various heights, in confined spaces and in inclement weather.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 80% to meet business needs, requiring overnight stays.
- Demonstrated agility to navigate change and proven ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.
- Good communication skills.
- Background in bulk handling equipment.
- Maintain a Commercial Fumigation License.
- Maintain a Medical Card and DOT qualification.
Preferred
- 5 years of grain processing experience with grain/processing equipment background preferred.
- Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) certification
- Food Safety Preventive Controls (FSPCA) certification
- Complete NGFA Grain Grading Class for Wheat, Corn, Soybeans, and Milo
- Complete NGFA Grain Trade Rules Class
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Proficient in the use of a computer and computer aided design equipment
