Job Description:

Since 1870, we've been making malted barley for brewers and distillers all over the world from our home maltings in Norfolk, England. Today, we continue that work in 4 countries, across 7 maltings with a specific emphasis on supplying distilleries and craft breweries. In 2023, Richardson International Limited successfully acquired Crisp Malt, welcoming all our employees into its wider group of companies across Canada, the US, and Europe.

At Crisp, we value our team members for everything they bring to the business. Our culture is centred around producing high-quality, consistent malt, delivering world-class customer service, building collaborative partnerships with our customers and offering expert technical knowledge and support in brewing and distilling.

We currently have an opportunity for a Multiskilled Maintenance Engineering Apprentice at our Great Ryburgh location.

This will be a permanent contract with the role starting in August 2025 and the apprenticeship course starting in September.

The apprenticeship will be Level 3 Maintenance Operations Engineering Technician (MOET). You will be expected to attend our training provider Reagit in Norwich, where you will spend your first 100 days (20wks) followed by 72 weeks attending the provider 1 day a week and all other aspects of your training will be delivered on site, with regular site visits from your designated apprenticeship assessor.

This role supports our engineering team with general duties on site as well as learning a well-recognised qualification. As an apprentice within our maintenance engineering department, you will receive good all-around training in both mechanical and electrical engineering practices.

If you’re interested in how things work, have a logical way of working and want to learn and develop in a hands-on role, this scheme is for you. You don’t need to be an expert engineer before you join, as we will support you all the way.

Responsibilities include:

  • Completing your apprenticeship and engaging with the provider to support growing your knowledge.
  • Assist the engineering team in carrying out planned and reactive maintenance.
  • Learning to contribute efficiency improvements in all areas of the site
  • Contribute to continuous improvement on site by maintaining a vigilant approach to your work, identifying, and reporting any areas of interest to site management
  • Complete maintenance paperwork/computer entry in line with company procedures.
  • Carry out basic mechanical repairs
  • Work alongside experienced engineers to gain the practical knowledge and experience required to carry out both preventative and reactive maintenance tasks in planned and breakdown situations.
  • Work to the health and safety standards required at all times, ensuring the safety of yourself and colleagues.

We will provide:

  • A competitive starting salary that will rise throughout your time on the scheme based on satisfactory performance in the role and at college.
  • You with access to a mentor and a buddy
  • Regular reviews and 121s with your line manager
  • Personal Development Plan to support your learning
  • Opportunity to study for a well-recognised apprenticeship
  • Exposure across all elements of Maintenance Engineering on site to support developing your knowledge and skillset

Tools required during your apprenticeship and a laptop to aid your studies

Due to the requirement of work across the site, applicants will need to be 18+ by September 1st, 2025, and ideally have 5 GSCE’s at grade 4 (C) plus, including Maths at grade 4 or above, English and a Science OR A Level 2 engineering qualification with English and Maths functional skills.

A Full UK driving licence would be preferable, although not essential, as you must be able to transport to and from the workplace and to our training provider in Norwich to study towards your apprenticeship.

Please note that the role is very demanding both physically and mentally, and there will be a requirement to work shifts by the end of the apprenticeship.
