Richardson Oilseed is one of Canada’s oldest and largest fully-integrated oilseed processing and packaging operations with three facilities across Canada. In addition to producing bulk canola oil and meal, our food products division produces a wide variety of canola-based margarines, oils, and shortenings for the industrial, retail and foodservice markets.
Working with Richardson opens the door to a world of possibility. We currently have an opportunity for a Project Supervisor at our Oakville, ON location. The Project Supervisor will be responsible for all areas of project management and provide day-to-day support for the Operations and Maintenance departments, including the design, development, execution and commissioning of both capital and non-capital projects.
Responsibilities:
- Help develop and evaluate project requirements, determine scope, cost estimates, project plan, budget and method to achieve desired results. This includes, but not limited to designing or spear heading the design of all equipment or systems to be procured as a part of the project.
- Constantly on the look out for continuous improvement opportunities in all aspects of the business, including, but not limited to safety, food safety, electrical & mechanical systems and process improvements.
- Assist the Director of Operations in the negotiation and awarding of contracts.
- Ensure tenders are prepared and executed as per SOP or policy.
- Help select key personnel, vendors and sub-contractors for the project. Actively negotiate pricing and strive to determine the most cost-effective solutions.
- Track project progress and budgets to ensure target date completion.
- Monitor, control and report on safety, progress, costs and budget throughout the project.
- Maintain good working relationships and communications between contractors, sub-trades and project staff.
- Help resolve disputes, negotiate change orders, and communicate decisions to sub-contractors and management personnel.
- Communicate and enforce company safety standards and operating practices.
- Support Maintenance by ensuring all required electrical and mechanical documentation is available for assigned work. In addition, help maintenance with parts inventory management and work order management system.
- Manage the flow of information during the project phases to ensure that Operations staff are adequately apprised of project development.
- Identify technical problems and proactively find solutions using new or existing technologies.
- Maintain computerized systems and project management software.
- Actively work with the Maintenance Manager to provide help and guidance to the maintenance crew in performing weekly maintenance activities. Help maintain maintenance documents including SOPs, Safe Work Agreements, Incident Reporting, Training Records, Inventory Parts Management and all technical aspects of existing equipment in the production plant.
- Support the Plant Chief in maintaining utility equipment including Boiler, Ammonia & Air Compressors. Actively engage with sub-contractors to ensure timely service of equipment and assist in performing preventative maintenance.
Food Safety Responsibilities:
- Responsible for reporting food safety problems to direct supervisor or SQF Practitioner who will initiate appropriate corrective action.
- In charge of equipment and construction materials approval per prescribed industry codes and regulations
- Communicate Notification of Change each time an existing equipment is modified, or a new equipment is approved
- Active participant in Food Defense team
- Active participant in Business Continuity Plan
- Maintain sound engineering practices and strict adherence to the engineering codes of ethics, federal and provincial safety codes, building and construction codes and any other regulations and ordinances that may be applicable in carrying out the practice of engineering within this facility
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s in mechanical or electrical engineering with Post Graduate studies in similar fields is considered an asset
- Must possess some knowledge of electrical systems, electrical code, PLC design and SCADA systems
- Knowledge and understanding of process design is an asset
- Self-driven, results-oriented with a positive outlook, and a clear focus on high quality and business profit. Mature, credible, and comfortable in dealing with senior company executives. Reliable, tolerant, and determined. Well-presented and businesslike. Able to get along with others and be a team player
- Able to read, write and speak in English
- Minimum 5 years experience in mechanical design, process design and automation control systems
- Ability to multi-task and set priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Work independently with minimum supervision
- Must be adept in use of MS Office 2003 or later, particularly Excel and Word, and ideally Access or similar database to basic level, Internet and email
