We currently have an opportunity for an Director, Operations at our Richardson Port Terminal located in North Vancouver, BC.  This is an opportunity to work at one of the most successful grain handling facilities in the world, which exports canola and cereal grains to countries along the Pacific Rim. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop operational plan and coordinate schedules ensuring maximum utilization of the terminal asset
  • Establish daily receiving, cleaning and shipping priorities with Senior Director, Terminal Operations, logistics’ team and operations supervisors
  • Analyze current stock position with logistics team to formulate plans on space utilization
  • Ensure the logistics team reconciles physical inventory to paper stocks each day
  • Effectively communicate strategy to Supervisors delegating responsibility for operational functions
  • Provide support in the EH&S program and stewardship of the Collective Agreement
  • Executes on initiatives to develop, maintain and improve all areas of the EH&S program consistent to Corporate objectives
  • Provide leadership and support in all operations safety related issues including incident investigation, resolution and participation in monthly JHSC meetings
  • Liaise with the Maintenance Department, scheduling repair and capital projects with minimal operational interference
  • Review daily, with the Maintenance Superintendent and logistics team, the mechanical and electrical repairs and projects required and the opportunities for scheduling same
  • Recommend in cooperation with the Maintenance Superintendent, new installations, site improvements and proposed changes to increase productivity and efficiencies while reducing operating costs
  • Supports the practices of the Collective Agreement ensuring consistency of application of articles and interpretation of language
  • As necessary, support the grievance, arbitration and negotiations processes ensuring all processes take place within corporate guidelines and expectations
  • Manage human resources, including operations workforce planning, hiring, scheduling, labour relations, performance management and facilitation of employee training and development
  • Recognize employees based on merit and individual contributions while supporting a diverse and inclusive work environment
  • Provide effective communication and development of strategies to ensure that the supervisory group and logistics team are engaged, up to date and connected on the rotation to support ongoing issues that arise
  • Consistent messaging to the supervisory group; seek input in employee issues, operational issues

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience & Education/Training
  • Certificate/Diploma in Agriculture, Business or related discipline is recommended
  • 5 years Terminal Supervisory Experience
  • Management experience an asset; particularly in a unionized environment
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Sound understanding of the Agriculture industry
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet multiple deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated leadership ability
  • Travel may be required
  • Budget planning, working knowledge of collective agreement and Canada Labor Code
