We’re seeking an experienced Site Project Manager in the grain storage and plant processing environments.

The Position

You will lead the on-site delivery of commercial and industrial projects nationwide and it will require regular travel.  This is a “gloves and boots” role where you’ll thrive on getting things done - people-focused, improvement-driven, and key in ensuring the delivery of quality work, on time to specification and within budget.  You will ensure technical issues are resolved practically and promptly, your teams are aligned and accountable, and your stakeholders are informed and engaged throughout the project lifecycle.

 

It is a full time, permanent role with an average of 50 hours per week – and with the Head office based in Rakaia, Mid Canterbury.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Site leadership and daily operations - toolbox briefings, safety inductions, task priority setting, resolving technical and engineering challenges,  timesheets and compliance data, and reinforcing REL values.
  • Team coaching, culture, health and safety - motivating and inspiring teams to achieve high performance, building accountability and pride, identifying skill gaps, fostering collaborative and safety first behaviours
  • Engineering and technical oversight – bring practical engineering knowledge to solve installation, sequencing and equipment challenges, input to pricing, planning and design decisions during pre-site phases and ensure installs are to specification and quality standards
  • Stakeholder and client co-ordination – primary contact for all parties maintaining strong working relationships and expectations, negotiate and document variations
  • Project delivery and reporting – track daily progress, escalate issues with recommended solutions and support project cost tracking and invoicing
  • Continuous improvement – identify and implement, contribute to post-project reviews, recommend changes and champion a mindset of “better every day” across the site team

 

Your Skills and Experience

You’ll be known for your strong decision making and problem solving abilities and staying calm under pressure.  Your excellent interpersonal skills ensure you deliver clear communication and expectations to your stakeholders.   You are experienced enough to anticipate the unexpected and can pivot promptly to ensure the best outcome is achieved.  You’ll be considered respected, credible and vibrant by those around you.

  • Relevant degree or diploma (NZ level 6-7 equivalent) and/or a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Site Project Manager in grain storage and processing plant environments – leading delivery to scope, schedule, budget and client expectations
  • Experience in feed/flour mill installations – upgrades and new projects
  • Proven experience delivering high value projects ($2-20M)
  • Strong leadership and team management skills – leading, motivating and coaching
  • Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills
  • You’ve done rigging and height plans
