Position Overview
Pig Genes is currently seeking a highly motivated individual person to join and manage our production team. The Boar Stud Production Manager is directly responsible for carrying out the daily responsibilities of caring for the welfare of animals, including feed, water, and management by directly managing the team of employees to ensure they work effectively and efficiently. This position will cultivate employees into highly effective team members. Will also be working closely with the consulting veterinarians to maintain a healthy, productive supply of semen for all clients and owners The Boar Stud Production Manager will manage the costs and expenditures, volume output, quality assurance and bio security. In addition, the Boar Stud Production Manager will ensure environmental compliance, safety of team members, and risk management. Starting pay is based on experience.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Education - High school graduate; post high school education a plus. Continuing education in areas helpful to management of the farm highly recommended.
- Experience - Management experience in a farm larger than 1000 sows. Supervision of more than one employee. Financial understanding of managing a sow unit.
- Skills and Abilities - Honest, dependable, organizational and time management skills, communication skills and good people management skills.
- Physical Requirements- Ability to stand and walk on concrete floors most of the day. Be capable of lifting a minimum of 50lb's and walking 10 feet. Ability to assist in moving dead animals, 400+ pounds. Ability to handle (move by pushing or herding) adult pigs, 200-600 pounds. Ability to kneel and bend at waist for long periods of time.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees all areas of personnel management:
- Recruits, hires and disciplines all production personnel.
- Manages labor budget for boar stud.
- Trains and evaluates all employees.
- Prepares daily, weekly and monthly work schedules.
- Ensures payroll and other data requirements are occurring timely.
- Enforces a culture of safety and animal welfare.
- Enforces without exception the bio-security program.
- Resolves any personnel conflicts.
- Communicates expectations of the sow unit.
- Meets regularly with crew to insure good communication and teamwork.
- Encourage further education of employees.
- Oversees all areas of production:
- Regulates environmental controls for unit, including alarm systems.
- Manages feeding systems and strategies.
- Coordinates health program with veterinarian.
- Monitors semen usage and orders.
- Maintains communication with PCM point persons. Meets with PCM and Ownership as needed:
- Understand profoundly expectations of the unit (production, personnel and financial)
- Make fiscally responsible decisions.
- Supervises maintenance of facility and upkeep of the site.
