Job Description:

Prairie Estates Genetics is a family-owned and operated company specializing in seed sales and service for dairy farms that grow their own feed. We have been serving customers for over 20 years and are a leader in dairy-specific forages. Please respond with full resume.

 

This isn't your typical seed sales job! Our Forage Managers are consultants who work with area dairy farmers to increase their profitability with homegrown forages.

 

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for prospecting and cultivating relationships with large dairy operations that result in increasing Prairie Estates Genetics ("PEG") forage service and product sales. Our Forage Managers consult with cutting-edge dairies to help facilitate the highest quality homegrown corn and alfalfa forages year-round.

 

Core Duties (include but are not limited to):

  • Call on the current customer base and proactively prospect new dairy farm customers.
  • Obtain and submit sales orders and assist in providing financing information with third party financial products.
  • Deliver seed and/or arrange and monitor for the delivery of seed to the customer site. Coordinate returns with proper documentation.
  • From planting through harvest, consult with customers and their teams to provide feedback and troubleshooting to help them grow the highest quality forages.
  • Perform other duties as assigned including minor data entry, collecting samples for testing and presenting annually to our Executive Committee.
     

Qualifications:

  • Robust sales experience in agriculture, especially as it relates to the business aspects of larger farms (1000+ head of cattle), cultivation and forage.
  • A minimum Bachelor's degree in agriculture, animal science or agribusiness is preferred.
  • Must have a dairy background (i.e. worked on a farm or extensive experience in the dairy industry) and an interest in nutrition.

This person must have effective interaction and collaborative skills and demonstrate a positive, welcoming and professional manner in person and on the telephone. Additional attributes include:

  • Easy to get along with, outgoing and personable
  • The ability to self-motivate and optimize use of unstructured time
  • Effective verbal/relationship building skills
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills as it relates to sales and service
  • Excellent time management/organizational skills
  • Good digital skills (Microsoft Office, Excel in particular, and other data platforms)
  • Be able to present to small groups
  • Must have a driver's license and must be insurable
  • Must be able to move 50# bags to shoulder height
  • Travel is required and reimbursable.
  • The individual must be able to drive and walk in farm fields.
  • Work in adverse weather and field conditions (pollen, typical field hazards)
  • Work around heavy equipment
