Summary

The CEO/General Manager directs and coordinates the activities of the organization in accordance with the policies and procedures adopted by the Board of Directors to obtain optimum efficiency and economy of operations by performing the following duties personally, or through subordinate employees. Promotes company cohesiveness through effective communication, teamwork, and shared services.

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned)

  • Plans, develops and implements organization policies, corporate goals objectives as approved by Board of Directors;
  • Supervises the detailed operations of the cooperative;
  • Follows sound business principles in the supervision and coordination of the activities of the cooperative;
  • Conducts the cooperative's business economically and avoids waste without curtailing the services, which members and patrons expect;  
  • Coordinates activities of divisions/departments such as operating, planning, sales, and maintenance, to effect operational efficiency and economy;
  •  Oversees the promotion of products and services to develop new markets, increase share of market, and obtain competitive position in the industry;
  • Analyzes division/department budget requests to identify areas in which reductions can be made, and allocates operating budget;
  • Ensures an adequate accounting and inventory systems are in place;
  • Responsible for providing each member of the Board of Directors an agenda, manager's report, and comparison of the cooperative’s financial condition before each regularly scheduled board meeting;
  • Provides written and oral reports to the Board of Directors, on relative topics including financial, legal, regulatory, safety and personnel;
  • Responsible for making recommendations for new facilities, equipment additions and replacements; departmental and combined statements of operations cash flow forecasts; and source and use of funds forecasts;
  • Responsible for researching and seeking new operational methods and ideas that will benefit the cooperative and its membership;
  • Responsible for establishing programs to improve the cooperative's member and public relations;
  • Oversees all local grain purchasing, contracts, settlements, inventory, handling, and quality;
  • Supervises employee hiring and terminations for the company;
  • Directs and implements a performance review system for the employee base that correlates with a wage and salary plan that complies with the financial direction from the Board of Directors;
  • Promotes the organization in community activities, industry, manufacturing or trade associations;
  • Serves or recommends a board member for all joint ventures of which the cooperative is a part;
  • Maintains and promotes safety awareness; follows safety policies, procedures and reporting requirements;
  • Provides excellent customer service by managing difficult or emotional situations; responding promptly to customer needs, resolving questions, complaints and concerns immediately and meeting commitments;
  • Employee is required to perform all other duties as directed by the Board of Directors.

 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • The CEO/General Manager is also responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of all departments within the Cooperative.
  • They must carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience 

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Grain Handling Certification
  • Fumigation License (preferred)
  • Language Skills
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. 
  • Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane geometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. 
  • Reasoning
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
