Reporting to one of the Sr HR Managers, Potash, the Senior Advisor, HR Allan & Lanigan is responsible for providing strategic HR consulting and problem-solving solutions to site Leadership Teams and provide HR support to all employees within the Potash Business Unit. This position supports and collaborates with site leaders to contribute to business direction and strategy through the effective deployment of HR initiatives. This role supports all levels of site leaders and employees while effectively establishing relationships with Union leaders.
What you will do:
  • Provide HR guidance to the Potash leaders and contribute to a people perspective supporting the successful execution of the Potash business strategy
  • Serve as an unbiased consultant to the business to mitigate risk to the company by ensuring fair treatment and a balanced approach for those impacted by the implementation of new policy, procedures and/or organizational change, problem resolution and human capital decisions
  • Actively administer labour relations by:
  • Establishing relationships with union leadershipCreating forums for proactive and effective dialogues with union leadershipAdminister the grievance process through collaborative dialogue between management and union with the intent of representing management while striving for workable resolutionsWhere resolution is not achievable, under the direction of the Senior HR Manager and Corporate Labour Relations team, manage the grievance procedure up to and including arbitration in a timely fashionActively involve and consult with the Senior HR Manager and the Corporate Labour Relations team in grievance review to ensure past practices are explored and accounted for, with all resolutions gaining approval from the General Manager or designate
  • Oversee HR programs and processes including performance management, compensation and benefits, talent retention and attraction, health and wellness, etc
  • Work with leaders to implement new or annual HR initiatives
  • Provide guidance and coaching to leaders in managing sensitive, complex, and legal employee relations matters which may result in discipline up to and including termination
  • Onboarding new employees and fostering a positive ongoing workplace experience for employees in Potash Business Unit
  • Complete HR transactional tasks including employee letters, requisitions, communication/notices, and general transactions
  • Support Diversity and Inclusion initiatives within Nutrien including HR partnerships with the Nutrien Employee Resource Groups
  • Assist the Senior HR Manager with:
  • Consulting on business effectiveness projects i.e. structural re-organizations, business process improvements, etcWorking with leaders to anticipate future human capital requirements based on business, industry and market conditionsUtilizing change management philosophy, work with client group leaders to design future state changes (people, process, and structure), prepare change plans, and engage with leaders to implementTasks specific to the HR Advisor/Senior HR Advisor responsible for Aboriginal liaison role:
      Develop best practice strategy to engage the aboriginal community in an effort to create a better understanding of Nutrien and Nutrien’s employment opportunitiesEnsure Nutrien is accurately tracking self-declared aboriginal candidates and accurately tracking hiring and career paths of aboriginal employeesCompile statistics reflecting the effectiveness of our aboriginal employment strategy
    What you will bring:
    • Diploma or Degree in human resources or related field or equivalent experience is required
    • Minimum of 5 years of work experience with proven career growth path in a global organization
    • Experience with large ERP systems (SAP preferred, but not imperative) and advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills
    • Ability to travel in both United States and Canada.
    • Ability to coach and mentor leaders
    • Ability to develop, implement and manage change effectively
    • Experience in a fast-paced growth environment, providing strategic direction from a human resources standpoint
    • Possess a strong ability to develop relationships, with management and union leaders/members
    • Able to work collaboratively across multiple functions
    • Ability to balance the requirements of the Potash HR department and the clients which we support
    • Knowledge of Canadian employment legislation and regulations
    • Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; a leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical human resource initiatives
    • Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills with the ability to effectively interact with and influence individuals in different disciplines and at different levels
    • Superior leadership skills; ability to influence and engage indirect reports and peers
    • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills
    • Proven ability working in a matrix environment to reduce typical business information silos in order to increase cooperation and communication and work more effectively across business functions
    • Strong mentoring, coaching experience to business clients and peers with diverse levels of expertise
    • Experience with various change management methodologies to support client groups through transformational change initiatives
