Lead Maintenance Specialist- (Aurora, North Carolina, U.S.A.)

This position reports directly to the Manager, Mine Operations.
What you will do:
  • Oversee maintenance activity in the Mine area
  • Coordinate and assist in scheduling daily maintenance activities by managing regulatory, project, production, and safety system activities to provide a productive maintenance program and to ensure the reliability of operating equipment
  • Support area Turnarounds, Start-Ups, and Shutdowns by ensuring needed resources are available to support operations and maintenance groups
  • Provide guidance and advice on unit maintenance and reliability
  • Listen actively to unit operators concerning reliability or equipment issues
  • Schedule maintenance downtime to assure minimal impact to production
  • Interact daily with area maintenance planners and schedulers to assure timely and effective completion of maintenance activities
  • Coordinate with operations group to rectify improper operation identified by maintenance groups
  • Comply with all safety standards, policies, and procedures
  • Prioritize work with maintenance group(s)
  • Proactively handle root cause failure analysis completion and equipment deficiency removals to increase reliability
  • Work with Training Specialist to improve operator knowledge and reduce knowledge gaps with mechanical equipment operation
  • ODR development and facilitation
  • Review and approve work requests and assign appropriate priorities for maintenance work to be performed
  • Ensure adequate information is included on work requests and work orders
  • Coach and assist personnel in correct use of EAM systems
  • Develop & maintain outage lists
  • Support and enforce the work management process to ensure consistency across the site--this includes leading all daily, weekly planning meetings, backlog reviews etc.
  • Assist operations' personnel as needed in the preparation of equipment for maintenance activities
  • Assist in overseeing mine operation and the direction of personnel in day-to-day activities
  • Work hand-in-hand with area Production General Supervisors, and if appropriate, assume this role in their absence
  • Assist Lead Production Specialist in writing daily operating guidelines
  • Submit requisitions for equipment and supplies identified as being needed to maintain normal operations
  • Work with Warehouse personnel to identify the need to create, maintain and eliminate stocked inventory on an as-needed basis
  • Work with the Accounting Department to manage the receiving and maintenance of approved purchase orders
  • Prioritize administering all maintenance work by unit personnel including emergency work
  • Ensure MOC’s are approved before work begins when an MOC is required
  • Provide input for developing operating and maintenance budgets
  • Focus on pre-planning versus reactive planning
  • Track and improve mean time between failures
  • PM compliance and routine evaluation/tracking for critical PM’s
  • Review critical maintenance KPI’s and setting action plans for improvement
  • Notify area Superintendent of any overtime needed with detailed explanation of need
  • Comply with PSV’s, vessel inspections, piping inspections, CUI, lifting devices, etc.
  • Audit all safety check lists and unit record retention
  • Focus on continuous improvement of plant reliability and work efficiency through proactive planning and execution 
  • Review maintenance and operational work execution performance through analysis of job delays and job execution
  • Maintain budgetary items and labor costs associated with scheduling
  • Development and administration of both short and long-term planning activities
  • Act as the primary liaison for their assigned area
  • Ensure compliance for predictive maintenance equipment, instruments, relief valves, interlocks, outage preparation, PSM requirements for Safety and Quality, Tap Roots, HAZOPS, Title V compliance, customer complaint audits and insurance audits, to ensure work is performed in a timely manner
  • Oversee the scheduling, and execution of maintenance activities for process equipment for shutdowns, turnarounds, and outages
  • Communicate maintenance requirements to operations to ensure area work is prepared in a safe manner for maintenance activities
 What you will bring:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5-10 (minimum of 5) years’ experience in operational/maintenance process area along with 5+ years in a supervisory role
  • Ability to demonstrate a sound knowledge of the chemical processes, mechanical equipment and an understanding of best maintenance practices
  • Post-secondary education in vocational-technical school in maintenance technology or craft area, is preferred
  • Ability to make difficult trade-offs (thinking through risks and rewards) around work prioritization decisionsStrong conflict resolution skills to ensure correct prioritization decision is made even if unpopular Strong ownership to identify problems, collect data, establish key facts, draw valid conclusion and develop solutionsAbility to balance a number of different issues at the same time: PM compliance, backlog management, overtime levels, etc.
  • Adaptive leadership style to interact and communicate with subordinates, peers and management
