Reporting to the Sr. Director, Commercial Finance, the Proprietary Products Finance Manager is a newly created position.  This individual is responsible for the partnership with and financial oversight of the Proprietary Products, Innovation, and Selling, General, and Administrative (SG&A) functions and will evaluate their initiatives, investments and major operational changes to ensure alignment with the financial plan and strategic intent for the company.  This position will provide guidance to and work closely with the VP of Marketing and VP of Human Resources as well as their respective business leaders.
What you will do:
  • Identify opportunities for increased profitability within proprietary product & marketing activities including pricing & cost analysis, supplier programs (costing, rebates, payment terms) and pre-M&A analysis, including innovation ventures; communicate clear direction and objectives to senior management for achieving subsequent goals
  • Identify opportunities for increased efficiency within core Selling, General, and Administrative functions and provide decision support for all major initiatives; communicate clear direction and objectives to key managers for achieving subsequent goals
  • Provide strategic financial guidance to Marketing directors and proprietary business leads as the functional group develops new procedures, metrics and KPIs, and matures into an industry leader
  • Analyze costs, pricing, sales results and actual performance compared to business plans for responsible areas and prepare appropriate business narrative
  • Serve as a key finance member in establishing Retail’s Marketing organization, providing advice to senior management as decisions are made and the processes formed
  • Act as Finance lead in stakeholder working groups established to develop proprietary products strategy and related improvement initiatives
  • Facilitate risk management process and mitigation activity through appropriate trend analysis and impact modelling on company business operations, initiatives, projects, strategic goals and objectives
  • Lead team which will provide accurate, timely, and reliable financial reports and analysis to marketing & SG& A business functions, including interpretations of information for Corporate management and consultation on business issues that will lead to the formulation, development, prioritization and execution of Nutrien's Retail business strategy
  • Coordinate the preparation of budgets, strategic plans, quarterly presentations & forecasts
  • Monitor the effectiveness of improvement processes implemented
  • Assist with building and analyzing discounted cash flow models where applicable
  • Clearly defines and communicates duties, responsibilities, authority and expectations to direct report(s)
  • Monitors performance and develops individual performance plans to meet performance expectations
  • Keeps abreast of current trends and practices in the industry and field of expertise
  • Provide support for the monitoring of internal controls to ensure effectiveness
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned
What you will bring:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from a recognized institution required
  • MBA, CPA, or CMA strongly preferred
  • 8+ years in finance/accounting; 5 years of finance or accounting leadership experience
  • Strong integrity and business ethics
  • Ability to lead by example and work well with others
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office products
  • Experience in financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning
  • Ability to proactively and independently manage a high volume of competing priorities and potentially multiple transactions simultaneously, while formally and informally managing relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Relevant experience working within or supporting/covering the agricultural crop inputs, agricultural retail and/or agricultural technology sectors strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of commodity industry and agricultural value chain, including industry dynamics, fundamental/economic drivers, competitive landscape and emerging sector/technological trends strongly preferred
  • Self-starter with a high energy level, demonstrated success in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment
  • Experience with large ERPs and various management reporting tools
  • Excellent oral & written communication, analytical, organizational, project management and leadership skills are a must
  • Solid analytical, problem solving and financial troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to quickly learn new systems, processes and procedures
  • Sound, professional judgment
  • Solution-oriented with demonstrated ability to collaborate and build strong relationships with key stakeholders, peers, and team members
  • Innovative, forward-thinking, and flexibility to adapt to changing business needs
