This position reports directly to the Maintenance I/E Supervisor.
What you will do:
  • Maintain, replace, and perform diagnosis on all instrument and electrical components in and around the Nutrien Chemical Processing and Mining areas-including monitoring equipment systems
  • Ensure components are fully operational and working to optimal capacity (this is essential to cost-effective operations and requires a strict attention-to-details mindset to meet the expectations of its internal and external customers)
  • Manage the PSM reporting
  • Oversee and direct the support personnel’s daily activities
  • Conduct periodic inspections
  • Maintain and operate equipment and systems in a safe and environmentally responsible manner for the purpose of processing the highest quality products, at all times
  • Perform, with little or no supervision of a supervisor, the required functions of this trade on various tasks, at any Nutrien location, with a very high degree of skill, ability, and planning
  • Direct, coordinate, and effectively utilize the abilities and skills of other persons in this trade group, other assisting trade groups, trainees and helpers; this shall be done in order to maintain all instrumentation and electrical equipment to a high level of reliability, at minimum cost 
  • Assume and accept responsibility of work outcomes in the assigned area
  • Troubleshoot, repair, modify, install, operate, and perform routine, preventive and predictive maintenance on electrical, electronic, pneumatic, digital, mechanical devices and control systems
  • Maintain a systematic procedural discipline, following a predetermined course of action for doing things
  • Guide oneself with little or no supervision
  • Develop a team atmosphere to be able to get things done in a safe, effective manner
What you will bring:
  • Must have achieved the highest grade level (grade 13) for instrument mechanic or electrician for at least 2 years
  • Must successfully complete all formal training in both the instrument and electrical disciplines as well as any additional specialized training either on or off the plant site as is necessary for the incumbent’s area of assignment
  • Required trainings may include, but is not limited to, the following: programmable logic controllers, broadband operation and maintenance, radiation safety, variable frequency controllers, vendor specific distributive control systems, hvac operation and maintenance, supervisory skills training (sst), instrument society of america curriculum, national electrical code, etc.
  • National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) testing is required for all hourly applicants of Nutrien-Aurora and must be uploaded along with your resume during the application process
    • To be considered for employment with Nutrien-Aurora. Applicants must complete this test and meet a minimum of 4 in Graphic Literacy, 5 on Applied Mathematics and 5 on Workplace Documents in order to be considered eligible for employment with Nutrien
  • Ability to talk and give instructions to others, while focusing on the primary task of maintenance and repair activities
  • Ability to pay close and constant attention-to-details during the daily production process
  • Ability to make on the spot decisions, when necessary, and take immediate action to prevent or avoid production losses, as well as, loss of life or environmental upsets from electrical components that malfunction
  • Ability to have a singular focus for getting the job completed during upset conditions
  • Ability to demonstrate reliability, responsiveness, and dependability
  • Ability to work well with others on the job by displaying a good attitude and leadership skills
  • Ability to handle conflict situations when needed in dealing with production concerns
  • Must be open to change in a varying work environment
  • Quick reaction time and creative thinking skills are requirements on the job
  • Initiative and a willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges, without being asked
  • Adaptability and flexible due to the many changes that take place during the workday
  • Must have been an employee of Nutrien for at least 5 years
  • May be required to be clean shaven for safety reasons
  • May be required to work at high elevations and in open spaces such as platforms and/or catwalks
  • May be required to work 12-hour, rotating shifts
  • Must be able to wear required, company-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)--i.e., uniforms, steel-toed boots, safety glasses, emergency breathing apparatus
