The North Peace Applied Research Association (NPARA) is a non-profit, producer-driven organization that conducts applied agricultural research and extension in the North Peace region. Our mission is to serve farmers within the County of Northern Lights and the M.D of the Peace #135, and to meet the special needs that results from our unique climatic, geographic and soil conditions. Our organization has a strong focus on studying and promoting regenerative agricultural practices.
Job Details:
- Location: Manning, Alberta.
- Salary: 70K plus health benefits, commensurate on experience
- Terms of Employment: Permanent, Full time 37.5 hrs/week
- Start date: Spring-Summer 2025 (flexible)
What you will do:
- A self-motivated, responsible individual is needed to conduct and report
- on the research and field demonstrations of crops and soils projects.
- Develop comprehensive and compelling grant proposals, project plans and activities according to policy set by the Board of
- Directors to secure funding and support for research initiatives.
- Develop and implement detailed project protocols, including experimental procedures, data collection methods, and quality control measures.
- Regularly communicate and collaborate with agencies (government, post secondary institutions, applied research associations, and private industry) involved in research projects.
- Conduct thorough statistical analysis, interpret results, and prepare reports and presentations of research.
- Responsible for the annual publication of all demonstration results and activities of the Association.
- Participate in field data collection and farm operations.
What you will bring:
- PhD., MSc., or BSc with experience in Agriculture, Plant Science, Soil Science, Agronomy, or Environmental Sciences. P.Ag or CCA certification would be an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to report research in a professional and effective manner.
- Practical working knowledge of agriculture and environmental best management practices in western Canada.
- Ability to conduct small plot and field scale research with producers, agri-business, and various levels of government
- Related experience in agricultural research or practical farm experience would be an asset.
- Ability to operate farm machinery or willing to learn
- Ability to use word processing software efficiently, specifically MS Office, and statistical software (R or JASP preferred).
- Ability to write funding proposals and protocols for field research and extension
- Valid driver’s license with a clean abstract
- Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada
