Job Description:

The North Peace Applied Research Association (NPARA) is a non-profit, producer-driven organization that conducts
applied agricultural research and extension in the North Peace region. Our mission is to serve farmers within the County of
Northern Lights and the M.D of the Peace #135, and to meet the special needs that arise from our unique climatic,
geographic and soil conditions. Our organization has a strong focus on studying and promoting regenerative agricultural
practices.

 

Job Details:

  • Location: Manning, Alberta, Canada.
  • Salary: 50-55K plus benefits, commensurate on experience
  • Terms of Employment: Permanent, Full time 37.5hrs/week
  • Start date: As soon as possible (1 vacancy)

 

What you will do:

  • Work closely with research coordinator to design, implement and maintenance of both small plot and field scale research trials.
  • Supervise summer research interns in the field and ensure all research tasks are conducted safely.
  • Operate farm machinery for seeding, spraying, maintenance and harvest of crops. Experience using agricultural equipment would be an asset.
  • Assist with organizing and setting up extension events.
  • Assist with agronomic data collection (soil sampling, emergence counts, plant heights, tissue sampling, water sampling, insect monitoring, etc.)
  • Communicate with project collaborators and stakeholders, including producers, scientists, industry groups, and private companies.
  • Participate in agronomy training, including crop production, weed identification, pest management, and more.
  • Other duties as required.

 

What you will bring:

  • Degree or diploma in agriculture, plant science, soil science, or related field.
  • Interested in conducting field research with various stakeholders (producers, agri-business, government and academia).
  • Excellent written and communication skills, and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated initiative, self-motivation, and experience working independently.
  • Experience in agricultural research would be an asset.
  • Supervisory experience would be an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license and your own vehicle.
  • Be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada.
