The University of Florida e-Learning Institute, as part of the Department of Agriculture Education and Communication, offers agricultural educators, extension agents, and leaders the opportunity to continue their education to obtain a graduate degree that will impact their potential for career growth.

The Master of Science degree in Agricultural Education & Communication is a 2-year program tailored to meet the needs of busy professionals who are looking for a program that relates to their current work with an emphasis on future goals. The dynamic faculty in the Agriculture Education and Communication department strives to provide relevant curriculum in agricultural education, communication, leadership and extension. Students in the program learn how to lead change initiatives, conquer social media, improve instructional programs, and appreciate the breadth of agricultural issues in the US and globally.

Throughout the program’s history, students like Agriscience teacher, Mike Swindle attests his studies, “caused me to take a deeper look at myself as a professional, the lessons that I teach, my interactions with my students and my administrators.” This deep, critical analysis is an area that professors in the program strive to bring a continuous connection to in class discussions, but also in larger scale research and development projects during the program. Each individual student works closely with a graduate faculty advisor in either a thesis or project in-lieu of thesis option. Connecting students’ professional knowledge with habits of mind, skills, and analysis developed through course work results in a curriculum that is beneficial to both intellectual and career growth.

The online program is comprised of two required courses and three credits of non-thesis research courses plus a selection of other course work from the department or other appropriate web-based courses available throughout the University of Florida College of Agricultural & Life Sciences. You may choose from a wide variety of courses like Human Dynamics in Leadership, to Methodology of Planned Change. As you work closely with your assigned faculty advisor to select courses and design your non-thesis project, you will be able to build a program that will enhance your career with invaluable education and give you the potential to grow.

In addition to all classes being held online which allows you to complete your coursework when your schedule allows, there are no residency requirements. Enrollment in the program is the same price for everyone no matter where you live.

November 1st is the final deadline for applications and admission into the spring semester, and the program will begin accepting applications for the fall as early as February 1st. For more information on admission requirements for the University of Florida e-Learning Institute click here.
