The Discovery Analytical Research group within Analytical Enabling Capabilities (Analytical R&D) is seeking applicants for Senior Scientist positions available at its South San Francisco, California or Boston, Massachusetts research facilities. The successful candidate will contribute to the efforts in enabling the discovery of new drug candidates including small molecules, biologics and other emerging modalities. Key deliverables will include the development, implementation, and execution of analytical measurement technologies that may accelerate the pace of discovery research and influence molecular design.
The successful candidate will be able to collaborate in a dynamic, integrated, and multidisciplinary team environment. An expansive range of tools (e.g. chromatography, electrophoresis, mass spectrometry, spectroscopy, etc.) are leveraged and new technologies are developed to influence selection of new drug candidates and enhance scalability and robustness.
Primary Responsibilities:
Enable discovery partner groups with advanced analytical methods
Represent the discovery analytical research group in project teams
Solve complex problems by application of one or more analytical techniques, including but not limited to, liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, ion chromatography, size exclusion chromatography, two dimensional techniques and mass spectrometry
Explore and develop new technologies applicable to the field of measurement science
Demonstrate effective multitasking, prioritization and problem-solving skills in the planning and execution of experiments
Effectively collaborate in a fast-paced, integrated, multidisciplinary team environment
Education:
Ph.D. or M.S. (with 4 years) in analytical chemistry or related field and relevant work experience
Required Experience and Skills:
Strong background and extensive hands-on experience with chromatography and electrophoresis separation techniques (UPLC, GC, cIEF, CZE, SEC, HIC, IEX) and hyphenated techniques (e.g. LC-MS, GC-MS, etc.)
Demonstrated scientific ability through publications in peer reviewed journals and presentations in scientific conferences
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated creativity, and strong interpersonal skills
Deliver complex objectives under strict timelines in a rapidly changing environment
Work in a team environment with cross-functional interactions
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Understanding of biochemistry and organic chemistry
Familiarity with electronic laboratory notebook applications and good documentation practices
Prior work in a biopharmaceutical industry
