About the role.
McCain Foods is seeking a Technical Lead, Farm of the Future Canada to join our Global Agriculture team based in Florenceville, New Brunswick.
Reporting to the Manager, Farm of the Future, this role is responsible for deploying cutting-edge technologies and supporting research to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability. You’ll apply your expertise in advanced ag tech—ranging from digital machinery (ISOBUS), GIS and GPS systems, remote sensing, precision agriculture, and geospatial data analysis—to improve crop production and operational efficiency through smart technology adoption and regenerative practices.
You’ll collaborate closely with growers, researchers, and internal stakeholders to evaluate, deploy, and maintain innovative systems across planting, harvesting, and storage. From overseeing on-farm trials to automating data collection, your work will help drive McCain’s commitment to regenerative agriculture and continuous innovation.
What you’ll be doing.
Oversee the integration of smart technologies, including software setup, equipment installation, calibration, and troubleshooting to ensure readiness for timely operations.
Support key farm operations—seed sizing, planting, and harvesting—by focusing on automation, data collection, and effective technology utilization.
Stay current on global advancements in agricultural technology and potato research to identify and implement relevant innovations.
Provide technical solutions across seed treatment, spraying, harvesting, and storage, incorporating alert systems to maintain optimal conditions and sustainability.
Lead precision agriculture data collection, management, analysis, and reporting to drive operational decisions and accuracy.
Prepare detailed field maps, GPS points, and maintain field activity histories using GIS technology.
Partner with the Safety Coordinator to ensure a strong safety culture and utilize digital tools to manage safety practices.
Execute and support innovative projects, collecting and analyzing data to improve productivity, efficiency, and sustainability.
Deploy automated systems to track machinery usage, fuel, labor, and parts inventory for real-time insights.
Collaborate with the Farm of the Future team to deliver data-driven recommendations that enhance yield, profitability, and regenerative outcomes.
What you’ll need to be successful.
Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Technology, or related field; equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
Master’s degree or experience in plant science research considered an asset.
Experience with QGIS, farm management software, AI applications, and precision agriculture technologies.
Strong understanding of agricultural machinery, digital systems integration, and research data analysis.
Passion for innovation and technology adoption in sustainable agriculture.
Experience with potato production required.
Excellent attention to detail, dependability, and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
The work environment.
Blend of indoor and outdoor work across research farms, potato fields, and storage facilities.
Exposure to farm machinery, wet/humid conditions, and seasonal workload fluctuations during planting and harvest.
Regular computer and equipment use requiring strong visual acuity and attention to detail.
Commitment to safety and adherence to field and equipment protocols is essential.
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs regularly (and occasionally up to 50 lbs).

Compensation Package: $81,600.00 - $108,900.00 . CAD annually + Bonus Eligibility
The above reflects the target compensation range for the position at the time of posting. Hiring compensation will be determined based on experience, skill set, education and training, and other organizational needs.
