About the role. 

McCain Foods (Canada) has an immediate opening for a Reliability Engineer at our Carberry, Manitoba Food Processing Plant. Under the direction of the Maintenance and Engineering Manager, the successful applicant will be responsible for making the production and maintenance process as efficient and standardized as possible. The Reliability Engineer’s goal is to use critical thinking and engineering techniques to drive root-cause analysis and practical problem-solving techniques to optimize production and maintenance processes, reduce downtime, ensure collaboration between all departments and drive results within the manufacturing facility. 

  

What you’ll be doing.   

The Reliability Engineer oversees all facets of ensuring the factory is operating safely and reliably.  Together with other technical experts, the reliability engineer will create, implement, and execute programs to drive reduction in downtime, increase machine availability, strengthen current maintenance and production practices and drive a reliable culture. 

  

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Supports the safety program(s) and departmental safety requests

  • Able to foster, develop and maintain a strong safety culture 

  • Follow the McCain safety, loss prevention and environmental programs by holding themselves and all team members accountable to its tenets

  • Manage or assist with Capital Projects 

  • Lead and maintain the Asset Criticality Ranking and equipment lifecycle strategies 

  • Assists Maintenance Manager with reliability analysis of new designs to determine system, asset and component reliability 

  • Make specific recommendations to the Maintenance Management Team to improve machinery performance and reliability based on analysis of process and failure data

  • Maintain and report on reliability KPI’s (% worker utilization, % schedule adherence, etc.) in conformance with McCain (MP&S) standards 

  • Direct and lead the maintenance of a record keeping system consistent with a world class reliability program

  • Responsible for performing statistical analysis on machinery failure data and work order data to determine whether adjustments to the Engineered Maintenance Strategy are warranted and perform cost/benefit analysis to set correct frequency of task(s) 

  • Leads the Root Cause Failure Analysis effort for sporadic equipment failures and ensure failure modes addressed are appropriate

  • Leads the Root Cause Failure Analysis for any safety related equipment incidents

  • Supervision of contracted services within the factory/facility as required 

  • Liaison with corporate support for project management initiatives

  • As a member of the maintenance leadership team at the facility, participate in the continuous improvement process. This includes taking an active role in process improvement initiatives, employee training, and upgrading your current skill base. 

  • Support and identify training opportunities/activities for the Maintenance Department 

  • Completes and submits required reports in a timely manner 

  • Provide periodic reports and maintain records of downtime events 

  • Support OEE for all equipment and building systems

  • Perform additional duties as assigned 

  

What you’ll need to be successful.   

  • Education: minimum Undergraduate degree in Engineering required 

  • Can communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in written work

  • Strong technical expertise and problem-solving skills 

  • Strong analytical skills (e.g. root cause analysis and statistical analysis) 

  • Displays vision and demonstrates both personal and organizational sensitivity 

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics and computer-generated reports 

  • Solid understanding of proactive maintenance systems as well as continuous improvement strategies included in the lean manufacturing model

  • Technical knowledge of production equipment, electrical systems, PLCs, pumps, hydraulics, pneumatics, maintenance, and construction priorities is preferred but not required 

  • Knowledge and experience leading and improving vibration analysis, thermography, lubrication analysis and other predictive maintenance and analytic solutions to help improve plant reliability

  • Results-oriented, team player with critical thinking abilities, communication skills, as well as strong problem-solving abilities

  • Strong computer skills

Compensation Package: $69,700.00 - $93,000.00 CAD annually + bonus eligibility 

  

The above reflects the target compensation range for the position at the time of posting. Hiring compensation will be determined based on experience, skill set, education/training, and other organizational needs.
