The Packaging Mechanic participates in the maintenance function of supporting the packaging lines by performing mechanical duties on industrial equipment. Uses blue prints, schematics, and other Piping and Instrumentation Drawings (P&ID's) to assemble, fabricate, repair, maintain, and troubleshoot a variety of packaging equipment and machinery. Informs supervisory personnel about maintenance requirements and parts/supplies needed to repair equipment. Helps train others on the maintenance team.
Accountabilities:
- Promotes and adheres to company safety work rules and regulations.
- Assists and learns to perform maintenance work as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor or the shift Lead Maintenance Mechanic to assist with repair and adjustment of packaging equipment; changing and replacing belts, sprockets, bearings, chains, motors, pumps, etc. while following proper safety practices.
- Assists with installing, repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting packaging equipment, pneumatics, hydraulics, and malfunctioning apparatus such as conveyors, fans, and piping.
- Serves as a Team Player assisting other mechanics to carry out their duties.
- Listens to others to receive training in the department in areas such as pump repair, bearing replacement and gear drive repair
- Assists with workload while following instructions and assisting with replacement of faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.
- Demonstrates comfort with work in a team environment.
- Learns and assists with identifying packaging line operational inefficiencies and suggests improvements.
- Learns and assists with troubleshooting electronic control systems and performs limited repairs.
- Learns and assists with basic electrical work on electrical panels related to the packaging machinery
- Works in a safe manner and utilizes personal protective equipment and observes safety policies such as Lock Out/Tag Out procedures to insure personal safety.
- Documents work in the computerized maintenance system detailing the events of the day and logging information about machine condition.
- Observes and participates in the processes of fabricating simple chutes, taking dimensions, layout design, cut or shear pieces, maintain square, and weld joints and seams maintaining square while avoiding buckling of panels.
- Attends and participates in all annual, departmental, and job specific required training and monthly informational meetings.
- Participates in continuous improvement process. Must adhere to the McCain Code of Conduct.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED, and six months to one year related experience and/or training.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write information required on Confined Space or Hot Work Permits, or Lock Out Tags and make computer text entries. Ability to speak effectively to express ideas and provide feedback concerning the work environment to maintenance supervisors.
- Ability to perform basic math operations of addition, subtraction Understand and work with fractions and decimals to make settings, select machine drive components and correctly size tools. Ability to apply math concepts to basic fabrication tasks.

Compensation Package: $28.04-$48.06 USD hourly + bonus eligibility
The above reflects the target compensation range for the position at the time of posting. Hiring compensation will be determined based on experience, skill set, education/training, and other organizational needs.
Shift Differential Pay: $1.50 USD hourly (Graveyard)
