About the role.

Serve as the plant's medical professional under the general direction of a local Occupational Provider. Administers Workers' Compensation claims and directly manages the Company's return-to-work program. Administers first aid emergency medical treatment in cases of accidents or illnesses. Manages Occupational Health Programs such as hearing conservation programs and administers hearing tests as needed. Administers wellness programs that are designed to enhance employees' health and welfare. Maintains confidential, accurate, up-to-date medical and Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) records for the location. Works closely with the plant general management taking a proactive approach toward providing a safe working environment.
 

What you'll be doing. 

  • Provide direct patient care to employees. Responsible for initializing medical care for all work-related injuries and illnesses. Assess the nature of and treat work-related injuries and illnesses, conduct pre-employment and periodic health examinations, administer immunizations and medications, and provide health counseling and education. Monitor the health status of employees and coordinate medical referrals when necessary. Assume responsibility to treat work related injuries and illnesses and/or recommend appropriate treatment. 
  • Contacts physician and hospital to arrange further medical treatment when needed. Coordinates the administration of and/or provides immunizations and vaccines.
  • Develop and implement health programs for employees, supervisors, and managers. Coordinate and facilitate health and wellness initiatives like exercise, smoking cessation, and stress reduction programs. Collaborate with other professionals, such as industrial hygienists and ergonomists, to identify and mitigate workplace hazards and promote safe work practices. 
  • Facilitate and coordinate health programs and processes in partnership with Health and Safety and Human Resources. Conduct and/or coordinate periodic training, including but not limited to first aid, CPR, wellness, hearing conservation, blood-borne pathogens, medical surveillance (forklift, fit testing, and other exposure monitoring surveillance), ergonomics, respiratory protection, and OSHA reporting. 
  • Responsible for the administration of Workers' Compensation benefits and STD/FMLA and works on a professional, confidential level with hospitals, physicians, and other health care providers to ensure proper treatment. 
  • Manages the site's Return to Work program and plans with support from operation leaders, Fitness for Duty and Physical Capabilities Program, including follow-up with employees on the jobs they are returning to and provides continual communication to management on employee work restrictions and changes to their physical limitations/abilities. Partnering with the safety manager and being a key liaison to workers' compensation and claims branches. 
  • Responsible for all written and verbal communication that may or may not be confidential pertaining to the medical department, including employee education in health and safety procedures, Workers' Compensation claims and procedures, and accumulation of medical histories on all employees. 
  • Oversees the general health and wellness of the McCain employees, which includes but is not limited to the following: monitor the functioning of the Blood Pressure machines & AED, Champion and coordinate the various Wellness programs, smoking cessation    program, and educational programs (bathroom postings, brochure racks, handouts), and assist with employee suggestion program.
  • Oversee the ongoing process of updating and development of the Functional Job Analysis.
  • Facilitate and oversee the ongoing process of the Post-work employment screens, eye & hearing exams, etc., which are utilized in the hiring process and with those employed who move into upgraded positions within the plant. 
  • Support onsite EAP program where required
  • Lead annual Drug-Free Workplace Training and Reasonable Suspicion training
  • Additional responsibilities as required: The successful candidate will work with employers to develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures, such as protocols for handling hazardous materials or responding to workplace accidents. The successful candidate may also conduct workplace health and safety audits, assess environmental and ergonomic hazards, and develop strategies for preventing
  • Testimony in legal proceedings related to workplace health and safety.
     

What you'll need to be successful. 

The successful candidate will have graduated from a preferred four (4) year degree Registered Nursing program. Prefer at least four years as a licensed nurse practitioner or two years as a registered nurse with experience as an occupational health nurse in a manufacturing facility. Advanced bilingual speaking and writing skills are preferred in certain geographies. 

The preferred candidate will have exposure to the following: industrial safety programs, ergonomic programs, a variety of health & wellness programs, and Disability/Workers' Compensation Laws and policies, including continuous updating of the same. Must be able to maintain updated certification for First Aid, CPR & AED, and maintain accreditation for managing the plant Hearing Conservation program.
 

About the team.

The position reports directly to the Human Resource Manager. The incumbent works closely with the Site Safety & Security Manager in carrying out the Company's approach toward safety management at the location. The incumbent works closely with the location Human Resource professional on sensitive healthcare issues, job placement, and reasonable medical accommodation on a case-by-case basis.

Compensation Package: $58,800.00 - $78,500.00 CAD annually 
 

The above reflects the target compensation range for the position at the time of posting. Hiring compensation will be determined based on experience, skill set, education/training, and other organizational needs.
