The Opportunity:

Assist the HSSE Manager in the ongoing development and enhancement of the plant's HSSE program.  This involves helping foster and grow a less experienced team to ensure that we are able to drive to zero injuries.  This person will help enhance the program by working closely with the hourly associates and supervisory team to ensure we are exceeding the Safety promise. This position operates on a Monday to Friday schedule, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Implement, monitor, and continuously improve the plant's Health, Safety & Environmental Management System (HSEMS).
  • Conduct daily plant inspections, safety observations, and risk assessments (e.g., hand jack, ammonia system, conveyors, ladders, etc.).
  • Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and track corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Lead toolbox talks, safety meetings, and emergency drills (including ammonia leak, confined space, and fire response).
  • Maintain HSE documentation — including SOPs, JSAs, pre-use checklists, and training records.
  • Coordinate training and competency assessments for employees and contractors.
  • Ensure compliance with Saskatchewan OHS Regulations and CSA Standards.
  • Support environmental programs such as waste segregation, spill control, and wastewater compliance.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, auditors, and external contractors during inspections or safety audits.
  • Promote continuous improvement through safety campaigns, audits, and employee engagement.

 

What You'll Bring:

  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in an HSE role.
  • Possession or actively working towards Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) Certification or National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) certification.
  • Working knowledge of Saskatchewan Occupational Health & Safety Regulations and CSA standards (e.g., CSA B335 for forklifts, CSA Z94 for PPE).
  • Certification in First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, and Confined Space Entry (or willingness to obtain).
  • Strong PC skills and ability to use Microsoft Office and other applicable programs
  • Ability to work both as an individual as well as in a team environment
  • Strong report writing, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to coach and influence cross-functional teams.
