This exciting position is accountable for a combination of both vendor and product quality management and forms an integral part of our quality assurance teams. The role works collaboratively with control brand product development and management teams, vendors, and other business partners, including close working with our sourcing team in supporting our strategic objectives through ensuring successful product launches through adherence to our defined programs and operating standards. The role is the technical expert in ensuring product compliance and adherence to specification.

 

Accountabilities:

  • Provide technical knowledge of assigned projects, including key understanding of various manufacturing techniques, knowledge of related ingredients and properties in multiple applications, knowledge of process variables that could impact final product and an understanding of applicable industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide proficient insight to conduct detailed vendor and product risk assessment throughout the projects to ensure that all risks to the performance of the product from a quality and food safety perspective are considered, providing recommendations to attain an elevated level of compliance.
  • Work with Sourcing, Product Developers, and vendors through all stages of the process, from vendor onboarding to product processing and manufacturing, ensuring shared product specifications are technically sound, accurate and comprehensive.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives with vendors focused on product quality
  • Work with vendor partners to conduct appropriate shelf life, allergen review, travel testing, and other applicable validation studies to assess risk mitigations
  • With our Product Developers attend production events and/or conduct sample evaluation to ensure product quality consistency, sensory and adherence to specs and determination of vendors capability of a successful launch
  • Act with pace and efficiency during investigations and ensure timely resolution of customer complaints, trends and non-conformances ensuring that root cause analysis and corrective/preventative actions are implemented.
  • Utilize relevant Quality SAP and other platforms and systems for all processes and documentation
  • Ability to demonstrate and apply knowledge and technical skills within the business and with our vendor partners to ensure business objectives are achieved  

 

Role Requirements:

  • University education in food science or other applicable degree
  • 4-7 years related work experience in a food manufacturing environment in a quality leadership role.
  • Solid understanding of HACCP, GFSI Benchmarked Standards, Quality Management Systems and Canadian Regulations and their application in the food industry.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, ability to make risk based and data driven decisions and identify root cause and determine corrective actions when necessary
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage will all levels and team members with minimal direction.
  • Result oriented, passionate about business needs
  • Highly organized with a strong focus on detail and accuracy
  • Able to work effectively as an individual with minimal supervision and within the broader project teams
  • Effective prioritisation and ability run multiple projects, tasks, and timelines.
  • Experience with SAP QM, QIM and BI would be an asset
  • Some travel may be required for the role, project dependent, which may be local, national, and international. Requires occasional use of personal vehicle.
