Site Reliability Engineer II, Brampton, ON

 

As a Site Reliability Engineer II, you will ensure the availability, performance, and security of core developer platforms such as GitLab, Vault, and other tools. You ll handle upgrades, scaling, and patching with minimal downtime, while automating infrastructure management through Infrastructure-as-Code. You will enhance monitoring, alerting, and logging to maintain platform health, partner with security teams to meet compliance standards, and troubleshoot incidents to prevent future issues. Working closely with developers and other SRE teams, you ll optimize CI/CD pipelines, streamline deployments, and drive tooling consolidation by leveraging open source or building custom solutions when needed. This role demands a mix of hands-on technical expertise, cross-functional collaboration, and a continuous improvement mindset to keep developer platforms reliable, efficient, and ready to scale.

 

What You ll Do

As a Site Reliability Engineer II focused on developer tooling, you ll:

 

  • Own the availability, performance, and security of key developer platforms, including GitLab, HashiCorp Vault, Nexus Repository, and related CI/CD systems.
  • Perform platform upgrades, patching, and scaling activities with minimal downtime.
  • Automate operational tasks and infrastructure management using Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Ansible, Helm, etc.).
  • Implement and refine monitoring, alerting, and logging for platform health (Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, etc.).
  • Partner with security teams to ensure platforms meet compliance and audit requirements.
  • Troubleshoot incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and implement preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
  • Collaborate with developers and other SRE teams to enhance CI/CD pipelines, minimize build times, and optimize deployments.
  • Drive initiatives to consolidate tooling inside the company by leveraging open source alternatives and building custom solutions where appropriate.

 

What You Bring

  • Hands-on experience in hybrid environments with both on-prem infrastructure and GCP cloud deployments.
  • Hands-on experience managing and upgrading GitLab (self-managed), HashiCorp Vault, and other tools in production environments.
  • Solid understanding of Linux systems administration and containerized workloads (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Terraform, Ansible, Helm, or similar.
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Bash, Python, or Go).
  • Familiarity with monitoring and alerting (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, CloudWatch, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of authentication & authorization systems (OAuth, OIDC, LDAP, SSO integrations).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for complex distributed systems.
  • Ability to plan and execute upgrades of critical systems with minimal user disruption.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, and Security teams.

 

Nice to have:

  • Proven experience in a support or operational role with the ability to handle incidents, troubleshoot complex issues, and maintain high system availability.
  • Background in high-availability and disaster recovery planning for developer platforms.
  • A passion for driving improvements in the operations space through automation, monitoring enhancements, and process optimization.
  • Experience contributing to or managing open-source projects.
