The Senior Product Technologist Manager (PT) plays a crucial role in optimizing our private label product portfolio, uphold product standards and brand guidelines to maintain customer satisfaction and unlocking value for our customers in our non food categories (pet, paper, household, hygiene ). We are seeking a candidate with a strong technical background and expertise in product development in non food categories. Your responsibilities will include technical validation of formulas and sensory evaluation of products. A comprehensive understanding of ingredient specifications, manufacturing processes, product safety, packaging, regulatory requirements, and labeling is essential.

 

You will collaborate with various teams including vendors, product managers, quality assurance, and sourcing.  

 

Accountabilities:

  •  Sourcing Collaboration: Work closely with our sourcing team to review vendors submissions against our existing product portfolio and competitive set.
  •  Value Creation : Assess risks and provide recommendations based on product reviews to unlock value and enhance supply efficiency.
  •  Technical Briefing: Collaborate with sourcing to deliver technical briefs that includes product safety, regulatory and quality assurance requirements to vendors.
  •  Project Management: Partner with Product Management & Sourcing teams to ensure project targets are met. Provide clear feedback to internal stakeholders and vendors to keep projects on track and address any concerns.
  •  New Vendor / facilities approval: Ensures factories have adequate quality systems in place to ensure continuous product safety and consistency through review of 3rd party audit reports, government licenses, etc.
  •  Specification Management: Develop and maintain product specifications ensuring all necessary process controls are implemented for consistent delivery of product standards.

 

Role Requirements:

  • Post-secondary university degree in material science, chemical engineering, chemistry, or similar area of study
  • At least 7 years of experience in developing consumer products including pet food, consumer cleaning and paper products with demonstrated knowledge of formulations, associated testing, regulatory, product claims and quality assurance
  • Minimum 4 years experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Creative problem solver with a strategic mindset.
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • In-depth knowledge of product formulations, manufacturing, packaging, and testing applications
  • Understanding of applicable government regulations
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex information to non-technical audiences
  • Ability to influence and work effectively across all levels within retail/distribution, vendor, and office settings
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Effective change agent capable of driving organizational adoption of new methodologies
  • Results-oriented with a track record of timely delivery
  • Travel will be required and will include local, national and international
