Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and servicing electric and propane powered Material Handling Equipment in a Warehouse environment. The role involves a combination of mechanical and electrical expertise to ensure the equipment operates safely and efficiently.

 

What You Will Do:

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on MHE, including checking electrical systems, motors, batteries, hydraulic systems, and control systems.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical system issues in MHE, utilizing diagnostic tools to identify and address problems with battery charging, wiring, and motors.
  • Identify and repair all MHE systems, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and battery components, addressing issues such as power loss and charging inefficiencies.
  • Ensure all repairs and maintenance meet safety regulations and manufacturer specifications.
  • Conduct thorough safety checks on all repaired equipment before returning it to service. Champion a culture of safety by adhering to all OHS guidelines and regulations.
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and parts used and enter in Loblaws maintenance system.
  • Keep accurate records for inventory management, including parts usage and replacements.
  • Follow a scheduled maintenance program as per manufacture recommendations to inspect and service MHE to prevent future mechanical or electrical failures.
  • Perform periodic testing of hydraulic systems, motors, and electrical components to ensure long-term functionality.
  • Complete system tests to ensure the equipment operates according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Identify recurring issues and proactively propose solutions to prevent future breakdowns. Communicate effectively with management and team members to ensure smooth operations.
  • Assist with the installation of new equipment and perform upgrades to existing equipment to enhance performance and meet evolving safety standards.
  • Inspect, maintain, and replace MHE batteries.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and wiring diagrams.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education: MHE Maintenance Technician Certificate from a MHE Manufacture or accredited institution preferred.
  • Experience: At least two (2) to three (3) years of experience working with material handling equipment is highly preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Strong mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting skills. In-depth knowledge of MHE components, including batteries, charging systems, motors, hydraulic systems, and controllers.
  • Tools and Equipment: Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and specialized diagnostic equipment for MHE.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in various physical conditions, including tight spaces, cold environment, and loud environments.
  • Problem-Solving: Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills to quickly identify and resolve issues.
  • Safety Awareness: Comprehensive knowledge of safety protocols, particularly regarding electrical systems and forklift operations.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with team members and management.

 

Working Conditions:

  • This position is based in a fast-paced warehouse environment, with exposure to loud noises, machinery, and varying temperatures.
  • May require evening or weekend shifts depending on operational needs or on-call emergencies.
  • Physical labor may involve lifting, bending, and standing for long periods.
