IP/Trademark Clerk:

 

We are looking to hire a full-time IP Clerk to support the Loblaw Companies Limited ( LCL ) group of businesses (including Loblaw grocery banners, Shoppers Drug Mart, T&T Supermarket and Joe Fresh). Working with other members of the IP team and various business groups, you will provide administrative and clerical support with a focus on the day-to-day management of LCL s Canadian and international trademark portfolios. In addition, you may be asked to assist with administrative tasks for the broader Legal team. The successful candidate is highly organized, attentive to detail, and works effectively in a team and fast-paced business environment.

 

Loblaw has adopted a hybrid working model. For this position, you would be required to work a minimum of four (4) days per week in one of three offices (downtown Toronto, North York, or Brampton) with a minimum of one (1) day a week in the Brampton head office.

 

What You'll Do:

  • Prepare and file Canadian trademark applications, trademark renewals, and other requests/communications with the Canadian Trademarks Office.
  • Draft goods and services descriptions, and responses to non-complex office actions.
  • Prepare first drafts of various IP agreements (e.g. settlement agreements, license agreements, assignment agreements, etc.) using existing templates.
  • Assist with the preparation of evidence for contentious trademark matters (e.g. trademark oppositions and cancellation proceedings).
  • Docket and manage all deadlines and tasks related to the prosecution and management of LCL s trademark portfolios using a licensed IP management software.
  • Maintain and organize electronic trademark files.
  • Assist with the review of trademark watch reports for potential trademark confusion.
  • Communicate with and provide instructions to external legal service providers, as needed (e.g. foreign trademark renewals).
  • Work with internal business groups and various support teams across the enterprise to help achieve IP objectives.
  • Assist with managing and updating the IP team s online resource library of business facing self-serve tools.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of annual team objectives.
  • Be an active participant within the Legal team, including participation in committees of interest.
  • Personally demonstrate and foster within the IP team a culture of excellence that reflects Loblaw values.

 

What You'll Bring:

  • 3+ years of relevant trademark/intellectual property experience including filing and communicating with the Canadian Trademarks Office and related trademark prosecution practice and procedures.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • A self-starter and team player with a professional manner.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines while balancing competing priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • In-house experience is an asset.
  • Experience using FoundationIP software is an asset.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
