Job Description:

At Loblaw Digital, we know that our customers expect the best from us. Whether that means building the best, most innovative online shopping experience, or designing an app that will impact the lives of people across the country, we're up for the challenge. From our office in Downtown Toronto, we've created leading eCommerce experiences in the online grocery shopping, beauty, pharmacy, and apparel spaces, and we're only just getting started.

Why is this role important?

Our PC Optimum program is one of the most recognized and loved loyalty programs in Canada, helping millions of Canadians save more and shop smarter. We're now looking for a Director of Engineering to lead the next evolution of our Loyalty platform — enhancing its reach, resilience, and innovation.

As Director of Engineering for Loyalty, you will be a core leader within Loblaw Digital's technology organization. You'll oversee the architecture, development, and delivery of critical loyalty platforms that serve millions of Canadians daily.

You'll lead and grow high-performing engineering teams, own the technical vision, scale our systems to meet growing demand, and ensure we continue to deliver reliable and personalized loyalty experiences.

Your mission: to build a world-class digital ecosystem that supports one of Canada's most important retail loyalty programs.

What You'll Do

  • Lead, mentor, and grow multiple engineering teams and software development managers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement.
  • Define and execute the technical strategy for the PC Optimum platform, ensuring it scales to meet evolving customer expectations and business goals.
  • Drive consistent, high-quality delivery across digital experiences while ensuring operational excellence, scalability, and performance.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, data, and marketing teams to define and deliver complex features that make a measurable impact.
  • Manage multiple parallel projects and priorities while balancing technical constraints with business objectives.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders and external vendors (onshore and offshore) to ensure the delivery of scalable and secure solutions.
  • Own architectural decisions and set best practices for modern engineering approaches, including cloud-native development, microservices, CI/CD, and observability.
  • Represent the engineering function at the leadership level, providing insight and influence across business and technology teams.
  • Build and nurture a strong engineering culture through hiring, coaching, and career development.

What You Bring

  • At least 1 year in a Director-level engineering, ideally within a high-scale digital commerce or loyalty-focused organization.
  • Proven track record of leading high-performing teams and scaling complex, customer-facing platforms.
  • Deep technical expertise in cloud infrastructure, microservices architecture, APIs, and modern web technologies — plus a strong foundation in both frontend and backend systems.
  • Hands-on leadership style with the ability to dive deep and engage in architectural discussions while empowering teams to thrive.
  • Strong product sense — you understand how technology enables business outcomes and how engineering can drive customer value.
  • Demonstrated experience working in agile environments and applying the right delivery model based on business needs.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A passion for people — you actively mentor, coach, and invest in your team's growth.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Computer Science required; advanced degree preferred.

How You'll Succeed:

At Loblaw Digital, we seek great people to continually strengthen our culture. We believe great people model our values, are authentic, build trust and make connections.

We're able to keep innovating because our colleagues are passionate about their work and excited about the future of eCommerce.

If you have big ideas, undeniable enthusiasm, and thrive in a collaborative, creative, and diverse group, we'll get along just fine.

Looking for a challenge? Good. Love an innovative work environment? Even better.
