Controller – Yellowstone Cattle Feeders

Yellowstone Cattle Feeders is Montana’s largest commercial feedlot focused on providing customized services to manage cattle into high quality markets nationally and locally. The Controller will work on-site in beautiful southeastern Montana just 20 miles from Billings. 

What you’ll be doing:

Reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with our livestock and office teams, you will:

• Oversee the financial activities of the organization.
• Manage all aspects of business loan portfolio, including loans to customers.
• Provide financial information and analysis to management and oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.
• Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implement a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
• Prepare financial reports, such as income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
• Provide financial analysis, with emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
• Work with the CEO to develop key performance factors and measurements for company performance.
• Maintain and reconcile general and subsidiary ledgers, accounts receivable, accounts payable.
• Develop the company’s budget and forecasts; report significant budget differences to management.
• Work with external auditors and provide needed information for regular audits.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
• Perform other duties as necessary or assigned, including human resources, payroll, and general business management.

About you:

The successful candidate for this role will have the following qualifications and attributes:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or related field highly preferred.  Agribusiness a plus.
• At least five years of financial accounting experience.
• Experience in Ag Lending preferred.
• Experience in the cattle industry preferred.
• A combination of experience and education equivalent to the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work at a high level will be considered.
• Certified Public Accountant a bonus!
• Solid business development, analytical, and credit skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Proficient in QuickBooks or other accounting software.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
• Experience with or ability to learn proprietary software.
• Strong attention to detail. 
• Positive and innovative attitude.
• Team player.
