Highland Specialty Grains - Research Technician

This a Full Time position with Overtime located in Moses Lake, WA.  Wages depend on experience and qualifications.  Benefits provided are Health Insurance, HSA with Company Match, 401k with 3% Company match and discretionary profit sharing.

Job Description

60%  Field Work     

• Sowing of nurseries
• Coordinating with breeder for day to day operation
• tagging & note taking
• Crossing
• Variety maintenance and purification
• Coordinating with nursery specialist to ensure plots are kept reasonably free of weeds, pests, and disease
• Alley way care
• Spraying & weeding
• Harvesting of nurseries
• Machine harvesting of trials
• Hand Harvesting of individual rows
• Transporting & operating machinery for planting, harvest, or maintenance
• Managing temporary general labor crew

30%  Seed Lab Work

• Thrashing hand harvested material
• Cleaning and seed preparation
• Packaging and organizing trials for planting
• Basic lab analysis

10%  Office Work

• Data analysis
• Field book preparation for harvest
• Label creation and assignment to planting and harvest bags

Work Environment

Small grains cleaning facility. Frequently required to work outdoors, in dusty environment, moderate to high levels of noise. Occasionally required to operate light machinery and trucks.
