Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is searching for a qualified Ranch/Farm Assistant for a well-established Nebraska livestock operation located in Nebraska. This progressive family-run operation combines a solid cow/calf and backgrounding program with supporting crop production and is seeking a dependable individual who is strong with livestock but also capable and willing to assist across the farm when needed. This position is geared toward someone with a ranch mindset and strong cattle experience, while still being comfortable operating equipment, helping with hay production, irrigation, and general farm responsibilities.

Operation Overview

• 400-head spring-calving cow/calf herd
• Backgrounding approximately 1,100 calves annually
  • Roughly 700-750 head at one time through fall/winter
• 1,100 acres of cropland
  • Corn, alfalfa, and some soybeans
• Irrigated hay and row crops
• 7 center pivots plus some additional irrigation
• Large round bale hay program with some haylage
• Diversified operation where crops support the cattle program

This is a well-run, established operation with a strong livestock focus supported by an active farming program.

Position Overview

Employer is seeking a well-rounded Ranch/Farm Assistant whose strengths lean toward livestock work and backgrounding cattle, but who is also willing and able to help with equipment operation, haying, irrigation, and seasonal crop work.
This individual will work directly with ownership and be involved in day-to-day ranch and farm activities. The right person will take pride in animal care, be attentive to details, and be willing to step in wherever needed.

Primary Responsibilities

Livestock & Ranch Duties

• Assist with cow/calf herd
• Support backgrounding operations
• Feeding and daily cattle care
• Spotting, pulling, and treating sick cattle
• Processing and receiving cattle
• Assist during calving season
• Monitor cattle health and performance
• General ranch upkeep

Farm & Equipment Duties

• Tractor and equipment operation
• Assist with hay production (swathing, raking, baling)
• Irrigation monitoring and maintenance (pivots and some pipe)
• General maintenance and repairs
• Seasonal planting and harvest assistance
• Yard and facility upkeep

Position will involve both livestock and crop responsibilities, with emphasis on cattle work and supporting the overall operation.

Ideal Candidate

• Solid livestock experience, particularly with cattle
• Comfortable with animal health and feeding
• Calving experience helpful
• Willing and able to assist with crop and equipment work
• Mechanically inclined
• Irrigation experience a plus
• Dependable and self-motivated
• Team-oriented with good attitude

• Stable work history preferred
