JOB DESCRIPTION:
Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is searching for a Ranch & Resource Manager for large Nevada Ranch. Under general direction, manages, directs and administers livestock, grazing and farming programs. Develops and implements sound ranching and agricultural programs, methods and initiatives; represents company and promotes positive working relationships with other ranchers, agents and community partners in order to achieve company goals. Performs related duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
The Ranch and Resource Manager is responsible for overall management and direction of the livestock, grazing and agricultural operations to achieve effective business and financial operations while ensuring environmentally sound and safe farming and livestock production practices. Manages and directs the work of full-time and seasonal staff and contract personnel. Work requires in-depth professional ranch management and agribusiness knowledge and business management competencies as well as a sound understanding of impacts and interactions with environmental management and wildlife habitat conservation. Assignments are broad in scope, requiring the exercise of leadership skills and highly effective collaboration with other managers and the community to ensure that company goals are achieved. Performance is measured on the basis of operational effectiveness and goals achieved.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans, organizes, controls, integrates and evaluates the work of assigned division staff and contract personnel; with assigned supervisors and staff, develops, implements and monitors work plans to achieve goals and objectives; participates in the development of and monitors performance against the annual division budget; supervises and participates in developing, implementing and evaluating plans, work processes, systems and procedures to achieve annual goals, objectives and work standards.
- Plans and evaluates the performance of supervisors and staff; establishes performance requirements and personal development targets; regularly monitors performance and provides coaching for performance improvement and development; recommends compensation and provides other rewards to recognize performance; takes disciplinary action, up to and including termination, to address performance deficiencies, in accordance with District personnel policies and labor contract provisions.
- Provides day-to-day leadership and works with supervisors and staff to ensure a high performance, work environment which supports achieving the department's and company mission, objectives and values regarding team building and employee empowerment; applies process improvement and quality management principles to assigned areas of responsibility. Participates as a member of the Environmental Resources department management team in overall policy, planning and strategy development; oversees and ensures the integration of sound ranch management and agricultural business methods.
- Manages the overall operations of the ranch; develops short- and long-range business and operational forecasts, plans and budget recommendations appropriate to phases of the Development Projects; analyzes livestock and crop statistics and trends; analyzes techniques and practices to improve business performance of operations; recommends additional sources of revenue; develops, monitors and reports on the budget for all Ranch operations; coordinates with District financial personnel to establish all required documentation and ensure sound internal controls and appropriate reporting processes are in place. Researches, plans, develops, administers and evaluates ranch management and agricultural business programs and methods to achieve established goals for the ranch; evaluates new technologies to improve methods and results in such areas as livestock management, large-scale farming, livestock/wildlife interactions and wildlife habitat while ensuring sound environmental practices and impacts.
- Manages and directs the work of staff and contract personnel engaged in livestock (cattle and sheep) breeding and management and in crop production such as planting, irrigation, chemical application, harvesting and grading; formulates goals and performance indicators; directs and ensures staff/contract personnel hiring and scheduling for efficient operations; conducts operational audits to ensure procedural and performance standards are met; manages and oversees the Ranch's safety program, monitoring to ensure safety policies and safe work practices are followed; investigates and resolves safety issues; oversees and monitors inspections to ensure safe conditions for employees and livestock and ensures other risk control measures are enforced; ensures compliance with permitting requirements and other applicable state, federal and local codes and regulations.
- Manages and directs usage of all ranching operations properties and facilities, including ensuring adequate security arrangements and environmental protections; directs and monitors cattle and sheep operations to ensure safe and humane treatment of animals; analyzes market conditions to determine acreage allocations; may contract with farmers for raising crops or management of crop production; verifies all business transactions are conducted in accordance with applicable guidelines; manages and directs the sale of livestock and crops.
- Develops, recommends and administers contracts for purchase of machinery, equipment, and supplies such as tractors, seed and fertilizer and for improvement of ranch facilities and other purposes; prepares bids, specifications, agenda items and cost estimates; enforces compliance with contract terms and conditions; coordinates and conducts inspections; reviews and approves contractor invoices for payment.
