QUALIFICATIONS:

 

- Solid understanding of herd health & dairy management
- Ability to teach others
- Written & oral communication skills
- General understanding of computers and related dairy/farm software
- Ability to manage in a team environment
- Bi-Lingual (English & Spanish) is preferred

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is representing a large progressive dairy located in Kansas, who is searching for an experienced Herd Manager. This position will be responsible for overseeing the health and well-being of the dairy herd and the employees. This person will ensure that the cows are cared for each day and handled with care and respect. In addition, it is the Herd Manager's responsibility to incorporate the company's culture and core values into the business's daily operations.

Responsibilities:

Employee Management

  • Manage and Train Employees to do Their Own Daily Jobs
  • Hire & Terminate Employees when Needed
  • Coordinate Employee Work Schedules
  • Provide Feedback to Employees through Constant Communication, Reporting, and Job Reviews
  • Consistently Share Results with Employees

Herd Management

  • Herd Health
    • Keep the Cows Healthy & Comfortable
    • Work with Employees to Make Sure Sick Cows are Found Timely
    • Ensure that Treated Cows are Following Treatment Protocols
    • Ensure the Fresh Cow Team is Treating Timely & Correctly
    • Correctly implement the Vaccination Program
    • Monitor Performance Associated with all Herd Health Metrics
  • Close-Up and Dry Cows
    • Manage the timing of Cow Movement from Far-Off to Close-Up Pens
    • Work with Employees to Dry Cows off each Week
    • Work with Maternity Team on Calf Delivery and Newborn Protocols
    • Keep area Clean and Comfortable for Cows & Calves
  • Reproduction
    • Oversee and Execute the AI Program and Synchronization Program
    • Work with Breeding Team to Follow Sire Selection Compliance
    • Work with the team on Pregnancy Checks using an Ultrasound
    • Maintain the Hoof Health of the Herd

Other Responsibilities

  • Utilize Software available to Manage the Herd. DC305, SCR, Delaval, FW, Etc.
  • Maximize and Efficiently Use the Sort Gate Areas
  • Meet with General Manager and Nutritionist During Nutritionist Visits
  • Follow BSF Processes for Paperwork - Beef Cows, Calves, Etc.
  • Part of the Relief Schedule for Overseeing the Dairy
  • Work Together as a part of the Management Team of the Dairy
