QUALIFICATIONS:

 

- B.S. degree or greater in Animal Science or related field
- Minimum of 2 years dairy farm experience or equivalent.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred
- Familiar with Dairy comp 305, Microsoft Office, and other computer software
- Good organizational skills, ability to follow protocols & work as a team player are a must.
- Valid driver’s license.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is representing a Heifer operation located in New York who is searching for a General Manager. The General Manager position is responsible for leading a team of 5–6 employees to achieve business goals in a safe and efficient manner. This includes oversight as well as continuous improvement of all animal care, equipment, and facilities activities. This facility raises dairy replacements from weaning age to 6 weeks pre-calving.

Major Functions:
- Lead the team of 5-6 employees including monitoring KPI’s, setting goals, and providing timely feedback on performance
- Completely understand and follow all youngstock treatment protocols
- Record treatments properly according to protocol
- Observation, diagnosis, treatment of calves and heifers
- Heat detection, AI, Implanting embryos, general reproduction tasks
- Complete vaccinations, weight, and height measurements
- Data management to monitor performance and goals including efficiency measures, growth rates, morbidity, mortality, and costs
- Oversee facilities maintenance and repairs
- Oversee equipment maintenance and repairs
- Maintain CAFO records for compliance
- Research project management in collaboration with DHMS
a. Record monitoring data for routine farm activities
b. Collect and process samples from animals, feedstuffs, and other materials
c. Perform analytical procedures
d. Work with data sets including entry and data verification


Daily Responsibilities:
- Review and maintain written herd notebook, dairy comp
- Observe, diagnose, and treat transition calves per protocols
- Observe, diagnose, and treat sick or injured animals throughout the herd
- Vaccinate, weights, heights, etc. to monitor growth performance
- AI and ET work as well as assist in flushing high genetic animals
- Manage necessary moves from pen to pen
- Other Duties as needed. Flushing, scraping barns, footbaths, maintenance, cleaning water troughs, etc.
