QUALIFICATIONS:

 

- Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience in animal agriculture
- 2+ years leading teams
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to roll up one's sleeves
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills and ability to promote a team environment
- Skilled at working effectively with cross functional teams in a matrix organization
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience obtaining and analyzing data and records
- Tough minded with the ability to have an opinion and healthy debate with the executive team, but professionalism to present a unified front once a decision is made
- Self-starter with a strong sense of ownership and good follow through skills
- Ability to handle conflict, difficult situations, and urgent issues in a professional manner

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is assisting an Ag Business in search for a Farm Production Team Lead. As the lead, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing the daily farm operations and production, ensuring operational excellence and adherence to the highest standards of animal welfare. In addition to your farm management duties, you will play a crucial role in fostering exceptional client experiences. This may involve warmly greeting clients and visitors, promptly addressing inquiries through
various communication channels. Your client-centric approach and commitment to operational excellence will be instrumental in building and maintaining long-lasting client relationships.

Responsibilities:

Farm Operations and Animal Husbandry:

- Develop a comprehensive understanding of current farm strategies, procedures, and best practices for effective farm management, including feed management, hay production, and animal care.
- Lead the Farm Production Team: Daily Huddles, Weekly L10 meetings, Hold team accountable to achieving goals.
- Oversee daily animal care routines, conduct health evaluations, and devise action plans to ensure the well-being of livestock.
- Gain proficiency in regular treatment protocols, entry procedures, and quarantine protocols for donors and recipients involved in breeding programs.
- Assume responsibility for the management of the RSG flock and all donor programs, including the efficient utilization of the Shearwell RFID system for donors, recipients, and commercial ewe management.

Continuous Improvement and Efficiency:

- Implement strategies to improve donor embryo production and increase the number of transferable embryos by 10%.
- Foster the development of stockmanship knowledge among team members through training and mentorship.
- Drive increased farm profitability by optimizing feed purchasing strategies and minimizing waste, ensuring efficient resource utilization.
- Continuously evaluate and enhance operational efficiencies to streamline donor production processes.

Nutrition and Diet Management:

- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the dietary needs and requirements across various phases of production.
- Gain expertise in ewe management strategies during different staging phases.
- Recognize when and why diet transitions are necessary and ensure timely implementation.
- Oversee the proper ordering and timely delivery of feed, hay, and straw to maintain consistent supply and minimize disruptions.
- Support laparoscopic artificial insemination and embryo transfer procedures as needed, ensuring adherence to protocols and best practices.

Facilities and Equipment Management:

- Develop and implement effective repair and maintenance strategies for farm facilities and equipment, ensuring optimal operational readiness.
- Maintain accurate service records for all equipment, facilitating proactive maintenance and timely repairs.
- Ensure the proper and safe operation of farm equipment, promoting a culture of safety and compliance.

Documentation and Reporting:

- Maintain accurate medical records and data documentation for all livestock, ensuring comprehensive records for tracking and analysis.
- Utilize farm management software and applications to record and manage data effectively, enabling data-driven decision-making.

Additional Responsibilities:

- Participate in rotational weekend chores to ensure continuity of farm operations.
- Attend and participate leadership meetings and training sessions.
- Foster highly effective communication and collaboration with clients, peers, and cross-functional teams to ensure seamless operations and exceptional client experiences.

During the non-breeding season, additional tasks may include:

- Answer client calls and provide helpful responses
- Take client supply orders
- Pull, pack and ship supply orders
- Limited assistance with livestock when necessary Special Projects as determined: projects may include
- Research
- Special Reporting
- Inventory Audits
- Client calls to gather and secure needed information
- Tasks that will enable preparation for Client Training Days, Seminars or Special Events
