Job Title: Chief Operating Officer (COO)
$150,000+ base salary (DOE, flexible for the right candidate)

Hansen Ag Placement is seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) for a progressive, family-owned livestock, farming, and real estate operation in California.

This is a hands-on operational leadership role supporting a private family office overseeing multiple entities, including cattle ranching, rice farming, and diversified real estate holdings. The COO will work directly with ownership to restore structure, manage day-to-day operations, and take pressure off the Owner.

This is not a corporate role—this is a trust-based, service-oriented position where success depends on judgment, reliability, and long-term fit.

Position Overview

Employer is seeking a high-level operations leader to oversee all aspects of the family office and related entities. This individual will work directly with ownership and the bookkeeper to manage operations, improve efficiency, and handle daily responsibilities across the organization.

The right person will be someone who can learn the existing system, respect how things are done, and gradually take ownership of operations without overcomplicating processes.

Primary Responsibilities

Operations & Administration

  • Oversee day-to-day operations across all entities
  • Manage:
    • Insurance (personal & commercial)
    • Vehicle registration and compliance
    • Property logistics and vendor coordination
  • Take ownership of administrative processes and reduce Owner involvement

HR & Staffing (High Priority)

  • Assist with hiring and placement of:
    • AP/AR support staff
    • Executive assistant
    • Housekeeper and domestic staff
    • Additional labor roles as needed
  • Improve hiring outcomes and long-term retention

Financial Oversight (Simple & Practical)

  • Work alongside Bookkeeper on financial operations
  • Review invoices for:
    • Accuracy
    • Proper itemization
    • Correct billing practices
  • Operate within a cash-based system (no debt, no complex reporting)

Process & Workflow Management

  • Take over repetitive and routine tasks:
    • Mail handling
    • Bill approvals
    • General decision-making
  • Maintain simple, effective systems without overengineering

Continuity & Estate Support

  • Serve as co-signer with Bookkeeper if needed
  • Assist in maintaining operations and supporting estate execution if required

Ideal Candidate

  • Strong operational leadership experience (family office, agriculture, military, or similar)
  • Hands-on background with agriculture, ranching, or property operations
  • Understands basic equipment and field environments
  • High integrity, dependable, and trustworthy
  • Strong common sense and decision-making ability
  • Ability to balance initiative with restraint ("accelerator vs. brake")
  • Service-oriented mindset with no ego

Preferred:

  • Military background or leadership experience
  • Experience working directly with ownership or family-run operations

Why This Opportunity

  • Step into a key leadership role with immediate impact
  • Work directly with ownership—your decisions matter
  • Opportunity to build trust and grow compensation over time
  • Become a critical pillar of a long-standing operation

Bottom Line

This is a rare opportunity for someone who wants more than a title—
someone who wants to take ownership, build trust, and be relied on long-term.
