- Experience in supervising teams in an agricultural setting
- Analytical skills to assess calf performance and make data-based decisions
- Ability to organize, train, and motivate employees
- Familiarity with feeding systems, pasteurizers, and calf barn equipment
- Strong communication skills
- Spanish language ability is a plus
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and record-keeping skills
- Hands-on, can-do attitude with a willingness to be in the barn daily
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is seeking a highly motivated Calf Manager to oversee the total management of the calf-rearing unit, which includes both the calf care operation and the maternity. This is a leadership role requiring a hands-on individual who excels at leading a team while directly contributing to the daily care and health of the calves and newborn animals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide full management of calf operations, from newborns to four-month-olds, including daily feeding, health monitoring, and growth performance
- Oversee the maternity care unit, ensuring proper calving assistance, newborn care, and transition into the calf program
- Manage the pasteurized milk feeding program and guarantee timely, accurate delivery of milk to calves
- Administer vaccinations, perform freeze branding, and execute other routine calf processing procedures
- Maintain detailed and accurate records for calf health, treatments, feed intake, and growth rates
- Monitor data, review performance reports, and make management decisions based on analysis
- Oversee inventory and ordering of medications, vaccines, and necessary calf-rearing supplies
- Train, lead, and supervise a team of 8 employees to ensure adherence to animal care protocols
- Promote a culture of animal welfare, facility cleanliness, and high standards of care in both the calf and maternity areas
- Collaborate with veterinarians, nutritionists, and other farm management to ensure calf health protocols are followed and improved upon when necessary
